The riboflavin concentration of biopsied livers was lower in children with ariboflavinotic signs as part manifestations of nutritional dystrophy than in those without them. Protein deficiency may be one of the factors contributing to the development of ariboflavinosis in children in this district, because the riboflavin concentration tended to be lower in the biopsied livers in which plant cell-like appearance of the hepatic cells was histologically demonstrated more frequently than in those without such changes.
