Studies were made on the application of the chemical method for determination of thioctic acid, previously reported, to that of thioctamide. It was found that thioctamide was reduced quantitatively to dihydrothioctamide as well as the reduction of thioctic acid to its dihydro derivative, and a straight calibration line was obtained corresponding to dihydrothioctamide concentration. Furthermore, a quantitative separation of the substance from a mixed sample with thioctic acid was successfully carried out. The method obtained by these studies brought a favourable result when it was applied to the determination of thioctamide contained in a tablet of vitamin-complex.
