The gas chromatographic behavior of pyrithioxin (PNSS) and it's related compounds were investigated. From the results it was found that PNSS trimethylsilyl (TMS) and trifluoroacetyl derivatives were decomposed by polar column, and the peak of PNSS・TMS derivative also decreased in injection port at a temperature higher than about 300℃ and in column at a temperature higher than about 250℃. PNSS was quantitatively converted to the TMS derivative by reacting with bis-(trimethylsilyl)-acetamide at room temperature for 10 minutes. This determination procedure of PNSS was applied to pharmaceutical preparation. The stationary phase used was 1.5% methyl phenyl silicone coated on Chromosorb W (acid-washed and silane treated, 80/100 mesh) and determination was carried out under the conditions given in Fig. 3. The recovery was 100.4% (n=8) and the standard deviation was 1.28% for PNSS.
