A theoretical method is presented to calculate the flow fields and hydrodynamic forces of a ship in steady turning. The double model assumption is adopted for the free surface effect. Flow around a hull and hydrodynamic forces on it are calculated by the Morino's surface panel method. The simplified propeller theory for a propeller and the surface panel method for a rudder are applied to Propeller-Rudder System (PRS) which is a propulsor to produce thrust and lateral forces. Then the mutual interaction between hull and PRS can be calclated by considering the induced velocity due to the other. Further the approximate procedure using interaction factors to estimate hydrodynamic forces acting on a ship is introduced from the practical view point. At last calculated results are compared with experimental data. Thus, the methods adopted in this paper is shown to be effective.
