Tailing of chelating agents in thin-layer chromatography was found to be due to the different adsorptivity of the chelate compounds formed against silica gel during development. This was clarified by the analysis of distribution coefficient using oxine (8-hydroxyquinoline) and adsorption isotherm. Effective prevention of this tailing by treatment with disodium salt of EDTA was also proved by the foregoing analyses.
