抄録

The planar structure of hayatine was proposed as I by Bhattacharji, but, Milne, et al. later corrected the structure as (±)-curine (VI). Ullmann reaction of the bromophenol derivative (V), prepared by the usual method, gave O, O-dibenzyl derivatives (IIIa and IIIb) of the hayatine, which were hydrolysed to afford the so-called hayatine (Ia and Ib). Direct comparison of the above synthetic sample with natural hayatine in physical properties revealed that the planar structure (I) for hayatine was not correct.
