A new hybrid, Dryopteris ×makabensis (Dryopteridaceae) is described from Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Morphological observations, ploidy analysis, as well as nuclear and plastid DNA analyses, indicate that this diploid sterile hybrid likely originated from a cross between D. caudipinna and D. tokyoensis. Its occurrence is likely infrequent because the habitats of the parents are usually non-overlapping in Japan.

Based on plants from Phu Luang, a flat-topped mountain in Loei Province, NE Thailand, we provide the first description of Ophiopogon phuluangensis, sp. nov. (Asparagaceae), a species similar to O. kradungensis, which is endemic to another flat-topped mountain in Loei Province, Phu Kradueng, but differs in having narrow (1.5–2 mm wide) revolute tepals and linear bracts.

A review of morphology and phylogenetic evidence from the literature has shown Aitchisoniella Kashyap to be taxonomically distant from its previous placement in Cleveaceae. We thus propose the family Aitchisoniellaceae R. M. Schust. ex T. X. Zheng & D. G. Long to accommodate this unique genus.

Coelogyne phitamii, previously known only from Vietnam, is reported as new to the flora of India and nine orchids new to flora of the Sikkim Himalaya (Bulbophyllum forrestii, Coelogyne chinensis, C. bulleyia, C. micrantha, Dendrobium brymerianum, D. capillipes, D. darjeelingense, D. pendulum and Goodyera viridiflora) are also reported. Details for each species along with color photographs are provided.
