1. From the seriocological point of view, the writer tried to investigate the taxonomy of the wild mulberries in Japan and near countries as thorough as possible, so that he may be able to lay the foundation for the study of the cultivated ones. 2. For the determination of the species, the writer studied the plants both in field and herbaria. He collected numerous specimens in every part of our country, and examined also the specimens kept in the important herbaria. 3. After the careful study, they are found to belong to the following taxanomic groups: 10 species, 39 varieties and 10 forms. Number of the varieties and forms of the wild mulberries in japan and near countries are shown in the following table; [table] 4. Morus tiliaefolia, M. Kagayamae, M. boninensis, m. cordatifolia, M. formosensis, M. Yoshimurai and M. Miyabeana are the species endemic to Japan and near countries. 5. Among them, 3 species, 20 varieties and 9 forms are new to the science.
