The intertidal zonation of marine algae in Moroyose and Kasumi bays. San'in district, which front on the Japan Sea, was studied. The field work which forms the basis of this paper was carried out in spring, 1958. Ulva pertusa-Grateloupia filicina community is remarkable in both the bays, which is shown in Table 1. In this community there can be recognized two belts which are named after the dominant species occurring there. They are, from above downwards, Ulva pertusa belt and grateloupia filicina belt. The dominant alga of the former is Ulva pertusa and associated with this are the following forms : Enteromorpha linza, Codium fragile and Gelidium amansii. The dominant alga of the latter in Grateloupia filicina and associated with this are the following forms : Carpopeltis flabellata, Ilea fascia and Sargassum thunbergii. Same communities are also found at Kishiwada, Ashiya (Osaka Bay), Matsuzaka and Tokoname (Ise Bay). But the vertical width of community of this subject is apparently much narrower as compared with those in the places. An important pointy in reference to this fact is, I dare say, the tidal factor.
