The aim of the present study was to evaluate the changes in the physiological parameters and Kansei evaluation of the skin before and after the technique of facial threading. Sixty female subjects participated in this study. The changes of skin roughness, melanin index, erythema index and water retention were measured before and after the experiment, and subject's perception of the beauty technique including tactile, visual, and overall sensation was also evaluated. The results showed significant reduction in the roughness of the skin after facial treatment. The tactile and visual perceptual evaluation of the face was significantly improved. The result of the overall comprehensive perception showed that 60% of the subjects felt smooth skin, 5% felt whiter skin and 30% felt smoother and whiter skin. The visual perception of a smoother, white, and bright skin after the procedure proved that perceptual evaluation for skin was a necessary assessment.

The use of social networking sites (SNSs) continues to dramatically increase. People are spending unexpected and unprecedented amounts of time online. Such often excessive and compulsive use has been categorized as a behavioral addiction. This research is conducted to assess the symptoms of excessive SNS usage by studying user behavior in SNSs. We designed and developed a data collection application as a tool for gathering data from questionnaires and SNSs by APIs from 177 volunteers at the Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology (TNI), Thailand. This paper introduces the analysis results of questionnaire data to find the factors associated with SNS addiction. Our analytic results identified potential candidates for the key components of SNS addiction.

Currently little is known about how the color of non-edible items such as tableware affect people's perception of food, emotional responses and mood in dining activities. The emotional responses and mood during dining activities are considered more easily affected by colors. In this study, we conducted an experiment to understand Japanese female participants' preference and association about 8 different colors. We also designed 6 different illustration indicating typical dining situations to evaluate the perception of dining activities and color preference in each dining situations. Analysis of variance and correlation analysis were carried out to detect the significant differences between preference of colors and the relationship between color selection and adjective words. The results showed the tendency of light color being preferred to dark color, and explained that different dining situations evoked different mood and interpretation, which might lead to different choice of colors for tableware.

This paper investigates feature localization abilities upon injecting noise into the convolutional neural network (CNN). The proposed model intended to classify the 7 human emotional states based on facial expressions and it is shown to perform better than the earlier convolutional neural network. The internal representation of learned features emerges and a more accurate localization of those features appears when independent Gaussian noises are added to certain joints during the deep network training. We observed that the weights after the noise contaminated units lead to output that is more definite. Such behavior improves the network generalization through automatic structuration. We confirmed this by emotion classification experiments on KDEF black and Cohen-Kanade + datasets based on facial expression.

The present study analyzed YouTube sustainable design communities (with an emphasis on Academia) in English and Spanish through webometric methods. Findings included differences between the networks in terms of speakers and popular videos. Network centralities revealed that English videos form a community with multiple interconnections between universities and other stakeholders, while Spanish videos are mostly small groups and isolated nodes. Despite being well connected, videos related to universities were less popular than videos unrelated to universities. Nevertheless, videos related to students were key in spreading sustainable design content in both networks. The findings also suggest some factors that may be playing in favor of English based content.

Tactile perception is an important sensation when assessing the comfort of wood. In this study, we used a 3D real-time motion measurement system and a body pressure distribution system to compare the pattern in the hand movements in human subjects while assessing two emotional terms of wood with the hand movement assessing four fundamental terms. The results showed that subjects used similar hand movements to assess “comfortable/uncomfortable” and “like/dislike” emotions to those they used to assess “rough/smooth” and “dry/moist”. Only a few subjects assessed these emotional terms according to whether the wood felt “cool/warm” or “hard/soft”. These terms were related to the visual properties of the wood. The hand movements when assessing “comfortable/uncomfortable” and “like/dislike” were speculated by roughness and moistness rather than warmness and hardness.
