The purpose of this paper is to read the text of Martin Heidegger, Über den “Humanismus” Brief an Jean Beaufret, Paris (1947), in order to arrive at a better understanding of later Heidegger and Schubert, Winterreise (1827). Considering the symbolism characteristic of Heidegger’s terminology, consequently, it offers a close parallel to that of Schubert, Winterreise in literary terms. The reasons are as follows: First, it is well known that Heidegger was deeply affected by the poems of Hölderlin. No wonder, therefore, that Heidegger gave much attention to Hölderlin’s destiny (Geschick) in the hidden places, after the interruption of Sein und Zeit. Second, it is remarkable that this fact reflects that Heidegger tried to effectively make the writing system of “metaphysics”, based on the duality of “light and shadow”, which should be essentially equal to the aspect of Lichtung in German. And then, we understand that such a unique idea of later Heidegger leads to the leitmotif of Schubert, Winterreise, through the glass of Hölderlin darkly.

I examined the logic of the festival management in the Edo-era with citing a festival of Imamiya Shrine(今宮神社) which is the Guardian God of the Nishijin(西陣) area, in this report. As a result, as for the logic of the festival management maintenance, “Kokaku(古格)” and “Kyu-rei(旧例)” that is “a tradition(仕来)” greatly acted, but it was intended to maintain whole constitution of the Imamiya festival(今宮祭), and I’ve cleared that the tradition was destroyed as far as the maintenance was accomplished.

In this paper, we are concerned with the linguistic concept of Hiromatsu Wataru, the Japanese Marxism philosopher. Tracing the development of his thought, we can find the linguistic concept embedded in his philosophical concepts. His article on the linguistic concept concentrated in the 1960s, when he started to publish academic articles, and he continued referring to it. In the 1980s, structuralism and post-structuralism originated in France was prevalent in Japan. Respecting such situation, Hiromatsu published some articles on semiotics. Moreover, two conversations with Keizaburo Maruyama, an eminent Saussure scholar, were held. In this paper, tracing Hiromatsu’s theory from the perspective of linguistics, we try to illustrate that linguistics has been his main theme. The results from this paper indicate that intersubjectivity, his main philosophical concept, is inseparable from the linguistic concept, and this cogitation dates back to his graduation thesis on epistemology.

In this paper, I look at the musical performances of Esperanza Spalding who is the jazz bassist and the Grammy winner as the representations of American identities during the Obama administration. She has, indeed, been attempting to combine some aspects of her various backgrounds and music to create a new American image which represents the keyword so called “Change”. In 2017, however, United States is about to be changed again. It seems to turn out that US reproduces its history. I would like to indicate the unstable identities of the State through Esperanza Spalding’s music performances.
