A method of pitch detection for sound using inverse notch filter constructed by comb filters is proposed. A method of crackle noise detection in sound signal caused by crackles on LP records is proposed. After the sound signal is divided into short segments, signal power and maximum absolute amplitude of each segment are used to detect noise. The transfer functions of two or more of digital broadcasting channels were connected, an equivalent signal band expanded, and it examined it concerning the technology that improved the analytical accuracy of the propagation property. Perceptual effects of visual cues on sound images moved up were investigated with eight loudspeakers and lamps perpendicularly set up. The results show that the perceptual origin point of a sound image can be influenced by the visual stimulus with the duration of 1.5sec presented at the beginning of sounds.

In this paper, spatio-velocity contrast sensitivities were measured by using red-green and blue-yellow grating stimuli. The results show the contrast sensitivities at the spatial frequencies over one cycle-per-degree decrease gradually as the velocities of the stimuli increase.

The paper describes a pilot study to examine the easily viewable distance for a number of different sizes of picture, including 2-D and stereoscopic images. The preliminary results indicate: 1) there is little difference of the viewing distance between stereoscopic and 2-D images, and 2) the viewing distance remains at 2.0 to 2.5H as larger picture size than 70 inches.

We propose a visible light road-to-vehicle communication system at intersection as one of ITS technique. In this system, the communication between vehicle and an LED array is approached using LED array as a transmitter, and on-vehicle high-speed camera as a receiver. The LEDs in the transmitter are emitted in 500Hz and those emitting LEDs are captured by a high-speed camera for making communication. Here, the luminance value of LEDs in the transmitter should be captured in consecutive frames to achieve effective communication. For this purpose, first the transmitter should be identified, then it should be tracked in consecutive frames while the vehicle is moving, by processing the images from the high-speed camera. In this paper, we mainly introduce an algorithm to track the transmitter using optical flow and edge information.

Traffic accidents caused by elderly drivers have increased. Few elderly people recognize the decline in their own driving ability; this lack of awareness is a major cause of accidents. A driving ability measurement simulator was developed to make comprehensive measurements of the vision, attentiveness and decision-making skills indispensable for safe driving.

In this paper, we propose a method for screening elderly drivers who have dementia and potentially cause traffic accidents, by measuring their driving performance comparing with characteristics of dementia using a driving simulator for elderly drivers. We give experimental results on the method.

In seeking to reduce accidents by the elderly, it is critical to perform regular assessments and trainings of driving ability (particularly vision, attentiveness and decision-making skills) from early in middle age. A driving ability training simulator was developed to improve the attentiveness and decision-making skills while driving.

We conducted subjective evaluation on the relationship between TV volume and background sound level for the elderly. The participants themselves found no hearing problem, but they had small hearing loss. The results showed that positive subjects of recruitment phenomena annoyed louder than negative subjects when they listened at loud volume.
