The area near Abshiri City is one of the unexploited areas of East Hokkaido for gas and oil.
In spring 1953, geochemical survey was carried out in this area by Geological Survey of Japan in response to the request of the City Office. The purpose of this survey is to clarify the geochemical conditions of formations and components of underground water, before executing the test boring.
The Kurumatomanai structure which is composed of the Miocene Kurumatomanai formation is distributed near the street of Ahashiri. If there is a fine permeable rock in deeper parts of the structure it is inferred that gas and oil deposits may be burned there. After all, it comes to a conclusion that the test boring with estimated depth of 800m must be carried out some places of the anticlinal zone. And the various tests concerning geological, geochemical examination should be performed by this boring.

This report is a part of study on the relationship between hard metal particle effect or self cutting effect and wear. And many sorts of deformation of the drill-bit-tooth which occur during long drilling as a result of excessive load are mainly discussed in the report.

Laboratory studies of several factors affecting measurements of relative permeability were made on unconsolidated sand samples and glass particle samples. The general technique being used to measure relative permeability in this work is similar to the Penn State method except that a mixer is used in order to supply the uniform two liquid mixture to the core.
