This study aimed to determine mind-body correlation based on childhood experiences of youth with childhood-onset chronic disease. Twenty-four youth with childhood-onset chronic disease and 260 university students (without childhood-onset chronic diseases) provided a free description of their most impactful childhood experiences along with their age at the time of the experience. We used the Sukemune-Hiew Resilience Test, the 13-item five-point version sense of coherence (SOC) scale, and the health-related quality of life instrument (HRQoL : SF-8). The average age of the most impactful childhood experience of the youth was around 11 years ; it had a significant correlation with the onset age of their chronic disease. The SOC score did not differ significantly between university students and the youth. However, the youth had significantly lower resilience scores as compared to the university students. Multiple regression analysis showed that an activity experience during childhood and childhood chronic disease directly positively influenced physical pain. We also found that both physical pain and resilience had a positive influence on mental health.

We examined it when it preserved psychosomatic health and the youth with childhood-onset chronic disease had an important activity experience.

Childhood-onset chronic disease affected the youth's mental health through childhood activity experience, physical pain, and resilience. Furthermore, the importance of reducing psychosomatic pain was suggested as a way to preserve youth mental health.

In this study, the aim was to clarify the physical and mental health of family caregivers. The subjects were couples aged 65 years or older living together, with 7 spouses who cared for their husbands (caregiving group) and 15 spouses who did not (control group). The presence and daily care hours of caregiving were surveyed. The psychological indices used were the Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) 8-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-8) and the short version of the Japanese version of the Zarit Caregiver Burden Interview (J-ZBI_8). The physiological indices used were salivary cortisol, salivary DHEA-S, and urine biopyrrin. Comparison of the two groups showed that the SF-8_Mental Component Summary (MCS) score was significantly lower in the caregiving group than in the control group, and biopyrrin values were significantly higher in caregivers with long daily care hours than in caregivers with short daily care hours. In the association between psychological and physiological indices of the caregiving group, all items that showed significant correlation were related to caregiving. Subjects providing care “almost all day long” had high biopyrrin levels, suggesting a stressful situation.

In this research an internet survey was conducted with 1,000 school teachers in order to clarify factors reducing teachers' occupational stress. A total of 640 teachers who were aware of their own health problems were classified according to the combination of the total stress response score (the Brief Job Stress Questionnaire) and the work disability index (Japanese version of the SPS scale). Then, the hypothesis that different factors associated with different groups of classified stress situations was tested. In multiple group analysis a good-fitting model with employment status, values for teaching profession, work motivation, the work disability index, or the sub-items of characteristics of occupational stress factors and responses as variables was obtained, and common and unique paths for each group were extracted. This analysis showed that the value of teaching profession and work motivation as well as the workload associated with over- work acted as interference factors in the process from stress factors to stress responses. In order to reduce school teachers' occupational stress, it is necessary not only to improve their working conditions such as overwork, but also to provide support that takes into account their professional values and the maintenance of proper work motivation.

We investigated the differences in depression-like behavior after time-restricted feeding of CE-2 diet to C57BL/6J male mice. The mice in the experimental group were able to feed for 16 hr per day, whereas the control group were fed ad libitum. After 4 weeks, a forced swim test was conducted, and body weight and fasting blood glucose were measured. The duration of immobility in the forced swim test, body weight, and fasting blood glucose were compared between the groups ; however, no significant differences were found. We found no relationship between depression-like behavior and time-restricted feeding of CE-2 diet to C57BL/6J mice.
