This study examined the current situation of the proponents of reward- and donation-based crowdfunding and its temporal change. Two online surveys were conducted in 2018 and 2022. The ratio of proponents among respondents in the 2022 survey decreased. Nevertheless, proponents in 2022 set higher amounts of money as their goal, achieved them more frequently and were more satisfied and willing to propose a project again compared with their 2018 counterparts. Proponents in 2020 and after, presumably influenced by COVID-19, initiated more projects for social contribution, including COVID-19-related ones, with lower fundraising goals. A cluster analysis was conducted using the combined data from the two surveys. Thirty-four common variables were used, and four clusters were extracted. The distribution was different according to the periods. The ratio of “Locality” decreased, while that of “Socially oriented” increased in the 2022 survey, especially among proponents of 2020 onward.
