In this paper, the affect of using smartphone by young driver is experimentally verified. Five participants drove the high way with the driving simulator in case of using smartphone and not using smartphone. On the driving, leading vehicle suddenly decelerated and we verify the response time between the time of sudden deceleration and the time of participants’ pressing the brake pedal. In addition that, we investigated the data of vehicle, such as velocity, steering angle and brake stroke. As a result, drivers using smartphone on driving tend to be able to control steering but not to control brake pedal well. The time between sudden deceleration and participants’ pressing the brake pedal of seemed to be delay more than that of beginners when they use smartphone. From the point of risk feeling, the drivers who get used to driving feel risk when they use smartphone on driving more than beginners.

This paper describes concerning a developed beam profiler for laser light sheet. The beam profilers measure an energy distribution and beam shape. Generally, CCD and NMOS et al. as an image sensor are utilized for measurement of the beam profile. In the case of commercially available beam profiler, measurable beam cross-section is limited about the surface of the light-detecting element. However, the laser light sheets for particle image velocimetry and exposure light of IC have large spread angle. Then, it is not possible to measure the beam profile by using the commercial equipment. To overcome this situation, the beam profiler for laser light sheet with large aspect ratio is newly developed.

This paper describes the visual inspection of glossy plastic parts using lighting technique and image processing. The method uses reflected image of lighting pattern on the glossy workpieces because small defects near/in the reflected image are visible. In this paper, the lighting pattern is stripe and the camera images are filtered by differential operators to remove the stripe pattern and extract the defect areas. The experimental results show the detection of small defects such as scratch, concavity and convexity on the glossy surfaces of the workpieces.

In this paper, improving method of system efficiency in constant power region for interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor driven using pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter with voltage booster is examined. Proposed control method can adjust the ratio of flux weakening control and DC link voltage control. An effectiveness of proposed control is investigated by experiment. Furthermore, improvement of the system efficiency by using silicon-carbide metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (SiC-MOSFET) instead of conventional insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) is evaluated. Finally effectiveness of proposed control on different type motors such as "a small current and high voltage type motor" and "a large current and low voltage type motor" is clarified. The proposed control method can provide benefit to improve the system efficiency for IPM motor drive system in constant power region.
