In the area with depopulation and declining birthrate and aging of the population, street lights maintenance cost is in the decrease direction. Also street lights are being removed. In the area without street lights, an accident happens that the elderly stumbles and falls over at night. Due to fractures, elderly is bedridden and there are cases where dementia advances and dies. Our research group is studying whether it is possible to maintain the street light by suppressing the electricity bill as much as possible. In order to realize this, we have been developing a micro-hydroelectric power generator. We are considering lighting street lights using this generated electricity. In this paper, we propose a more efficient model of the blade shape of the turbine and report on actual system aiming at improvement of torque.
In this paper, we treat the point-to-point (PTP) motion of a rotary crane system, whose load attached to a boom moves in the two-dimensional plane, and then propose a feedforward control technique for suppressing the residual sway motion after positioning. In particular, we attempt to add robustness to parameter variations on the proposed feedforward control technique. In the proposed control technique, the trajectory for the PTP motion is expressed by the combination of cycloidal and trigonometric functions. The profile of the generated trajectory depends on the coefficients of the trigonometric function. Thus, we tune the coefficients by a particle swarm optimization algorithm so as to minimize the residual sway motion, in which the objective function for the tuning is defined to consider the robustness to parameter variations. By driving the boom of the rotary crane along the obtained optimal trajectory, the antisway motion can be realized even if the parameter of the system varies, i.e., the proposed method can establish a robust feedforward control. Results obtained from simulations and experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed vibration control technique.
A non-photorealistic rendering method has been proposed for generating a moire-picture-like image which are overlaid moire patterns in a photograph. The conventional method generates the moire-picture-like image by an iterative process using a bilateral filter and an unsharp mask. When a moire-picture-like animation is generated by converting each frame of a video by the conventional method, flickering occurs in the generated moire-picture-like animation. In this paper, we propose a method for generating a moire-picture-like animation that has characteristic with less flicker from the video. The effectiveness of the proposed method is investigated experimentally. As a result of the experiments, the proposed moire-picture-like animation had less flicker than the conventional moire-picture-like animation.
Copied molded synthetic resin products have been distributed in the market while manufacturer provide real products to customers. They not only violate manufacturer’s intellectual property right but also cause mental and monetary damages to customers. In this paper, we propose anti-counterfeiting and authenticity verification technique (called artifact metrics) for resin-made molded products. In our technique, each product has unique optical characteristic information formed by “liquid turbulence” which is caused when two types of liquid resin with different optical features are poured into a mold. Liquid turbulence makes random marble-like patterns (or characteristic information) all over the product. This information can be shot efficiently by using infrared light source and infrared camera. The appearance of the product is not affected by marble-like patterns as they can be covered by the paint which can transmit infrared light. In our experiment, we confirmed these results: (1) Covered marble-like patterns could not observed by naked eyes, (2) Characteristic information could be extracted from 50samples covered by black-colored infrared light transmission paint, and (3) extracted characteristic information by infrared camera differed from each sample.
Recently, the accidents of food fraud have occurred one after another. Therefore, ensuring safety of food became imperative. First, we have examined the possibility of pork products classification in this study. Secondary, we considered that it is useful to measurement at a low cost using inorganic and vitamin component value involved in pork products. Additionally, these methods with chemometrics (discriminant analysis and analysis of variance) optimized. As a result, only quantify of the inorganic and vitamin component value, we were able to classify different types of products and products site with a high degree of accuracy in pork products.
This paper describes the visual inspection of unexpected accidents in inspection images. Unexpected accident such as time deterioration of LED lights can cause misjudgement in visual inspection system. It leads big material loss, if the system can't detect the accident. So the accidents must be found online. In this paper, we propose image processing method to find unexpected accidents for various visual inspection system.
It is hard to listen to an announcement in a noisy environments such as in a train while running. In this paper, to improve speech intelligibility in a noisy environment, we focused on the time variation of speech spectral representing spectral flux from the analysis result which clear speech has larger spectral flux than normal speech. Therefore, we propose speech enhancement method of spectral variation to improve the sound quality evaluation value of STOI. In the evaluation results of STOI score, enhanced speech by proposed method improved more than original speech in all the SNR conditions (SNR = -5, -10, -15 dB). Also, the significant difference in the dangerous rate of 5% was found in SNR = -10, -15 dB.

Stripe-art images are used for image processing purposes in personal computers and smart phones, and visual effects can be improved by generating stripe-art animations from photographic videos. However, when stripe-art images are generated from each frame of videos and stripe-art animation is generated from stripe-art images (usual stripe-art animations), flickering occurs in stripe-art animations. In this paper, we propose a method for generating stripe-art animations that have characteristic with less flicker from photographic movies. The effectiveness of the proposed method is investigated experimentally. As a result of the experiments, the proposed stripe-art animations had less flicker than the usual stripe-art animations.
The current fishing population is getting small. As one of the causes, it is conceivable that 20s and 30s of young people are away from fishing due to overuse smartphones. In addition, there are a lot of people who are not good at touching bait and caught fish. In this paper, we developed a system replacing the bait into a fishing hook without touching bait in order to reduce the burden on such people. This system requires only one hand not only for people do not have one arm or the disabled, but for women and children who are not good at touching bait. We hope that this system will increase the fishing population in Japan.
