Facilities using unsealed radioisotopes at Higashi-Hiroshima Campus, Hiroshima University were consolidated in 2020 and 2021. The background and method of consolidation are introduced. The consolidation was carried out with the consent of the parties concerned and using the president’s discretionary expense. We consulted with the Nuclear Regulation Authority on how to proceed. Two facilities were decommissioned, while one facility was downsized to keep sealed radiation facility and accelerator facility and to store the unsealed RI that cannot be disposed of. The exhaust and drainage equipment were reinstalled for the downsized use, storage, and disposal facilities to store only one RI. Due to the COVID-19, details were discussed with the specialized company using Zoom. RI wastewater was discharged in accordance with RI Act and the agreement with Higashi-Hiroshima City. All management of radiation workers at the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus is now handled at the Natural Science Center for Basic Research and Development. The facilities after decommissioning are being used effectively as a university-wise common space.
