JOURNAL FREE ACCESSWe examined a new method for producing a metallic thin rod or band in which a long microchannel ran through its entire length. A tin wire and about 140 copper wires were inserted in a nickel sheath. They were cold rolled to produce a band specimen. It was heated to 1173 K and then furnace-cooled. The band specimens before and after the heat treatment were cast-in inserted in aluminum. In either case, an open microchannel formed at the site initially occupied by the tin wire, and thus the aluminum casting containing the band had the long microchannel in its body.View full abstractDownload PDF (1736K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSWe developed a system that allows gait analysis for both prosthetic limb users and able-bodied participants, and measured the mechanical data in various walking scenarios. Our system is composed of two six-axis load cells bound in flexible plastic in the sole of a shoe that allows mechanical information to be collected from both the forefoot and heel areas of the bottom of the foot. In addition to the shoe, flexible electrogoniometers that measure the ankle and knee joint angles were included in the system. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThis paper describes the locomotive functions of a cirolanid isopod, Excirolana chiltoni Richardson, from the viewpoint of mechanics. The behavior of isopods in the laboratory was analyzed with the high speed video camera system. Both free swimming and tethered swimming of cirolanid isopods were analyzed quantitatively. Some locomotive modes of cirolanid isopods were found out, that is, swimming in water, walking in air, and burrowing into the sediment were observed. The results of a series of observation and analysis revealed the locomotive characteristics of cirolanid isopods, such as the swimming velocity, swimming leg tip path, walking vertical walls and climbing velocities in air, and burrowing velocity into sand, and so forth.View full abstractDownload PDF (2553K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe dorsiflexion angle tests were performed on orthoses made from perlon / carbon fiber / acrylic and polypropylene using "Dartfish program". The obtained dorsiflexion angles were 8.2° for orthosis made from PCA, and 7.7° for that made from PP . The fatigue test was achieved on prosthetic foot worn sole and measured life of sole was found to be 2.137 x 106 cycles. The theoretical AFO lives were equal to 1.0 x 107 and 2.3 x 106 cycles for calf and sole parts respectively, while theoretical dorsiflexion angle of sole was equal to 8.266°.View full abstractDownload PDF (1562K)
