The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of expectation of costs and benefits of consulting and its relationship with consulting behavior among three types of concerns (peer relationships, personality, and academic problem). 1340 junior high school students (670 males and 670 females) completed a questionnaire. The results indicated that the degree of expectation of costs and benefits did not differ among the three types of concerns. Results also indicated that the experience of the concerns and the expectation of “positive outcomes” had a consistent positive effect on consulting behavior. However, there were not consistent relationships between the other subscales of costs and benefits and consulting behavior. Implications of this study were discussed.
