The platelet adhesion is initiated by the interaction between the A1 domain of von Willebrand factor (vWF) and the leucine-rich repeats of glycoprotein Ibα (GPIbα) under the condition of high shear rate. Many studies have been made for the biorhoelogical and molecular aspects of the adhesion process, and this shear dependent mechanism has been revealed gradually. This brief review roughly covers the recent progress of the study of platelet adhesion under the condition of high shear rate.
