Engineering plastics can be named as one of the leading high-performance material with improved mechanical properties and thermal resistance.
The annual growth rate of engineering plastics has been greater than 10% for several years, drawing wide attention as a promising new materials as polymer alloys and super-engineering plastics including liquid crystalline polyarylate. This is the field where breakthroughs in technologies are most conspicuous.

The effects of different cytokinin levels on multiplication of axillary shoots during culture on agar medium and subsequent growth of shoots in liquid shake culture were examined. The number of axillary shoot buds was highest(about 100) in culture medium containing 1mg/l of 4PU (one kind of cytokinin).
Tissue segments with multiple shoot buds thus obtained were further grown in liquid medium by shake culture. The growth of shoot buds into plantlets in shake culture was examined for liquid media containing 0, 0.1 and 1mg/l 4PU in combination with 0, 0.1, 0.3 and 1mg/l ABA. The growth was most faborable in the medium containing 1.0mg/l 4PU in combination with 0.1mg/l ABA. Individual shoots grown under this condition were easily separated by hands, transplanted, and established satisfactorily in soil.

Effect of nickel powder added to the hydrogen-absorbing alloy electrode of C15 type Laves-phase Zr-V-Ni-Nn alloys was investigated. The addition of nickel powder was effective for the improvement of charging and dischrging characteristics. Still another, we have investigated the charged hydrogen contents, discharge capacity and thermodynamic stability of hydrogen in the alloys. It was found that the discharge characteristics were improved by increasing partial molar enthalpy of hydrogen in the alloys, although absorbed hydrogen content decreased at -ΔH° <37KJ molH₂^-1. As a result, a large discharge capacity over 350mAhg^-1 was obtained when -ΔH° was adjusted to be in the range between 40 and 43KJ molH₂^-1.

In the three different FE (Flash Evaporation), IP (Ion-Plating) and IBS (Ion-Beam Sputtering), the IBS process exhibited the most clean RFe2 film with an amorphous like structure. In the FE process, the preparation process of the RFe2 powder should also taken into account because the composition of the alloy film depends on the purity of the powder. The IP process has a much higher deposition rate than the FE or IBS process, however, exhibits defficulty in the contral of the compositional changes. Further investigation using these processes are progress.

Magnetostriction of differently prepared TbFe₂ and (Tb_0.7Dy_0.3) Fe₂ thin films were measured using both a strain gauge and a beam bending method. Magnetostrictions up to 2⋅10^-4 were found. Sputtered films showed a small hysteresis compared with ion plated films.

It is a serious problem that excess argon-ion etching greatly deceases T_c*, Thus, the influence of the etching on T_c* is investigated for high-T_c Bi oxide, A critical etching time (t_e^c) to maintain high T_c above 100K is defined and obtained. The t_e^c is 8.5ks for the argon-ion etching.
