There is no clear development method for the development of craft workshops in Taiwan. In many cases, the space allocation of workshops is changed because of the need, and there is a lack of long-term planning thinking. Therefore, in the process of space development in the face of experience economy or service, there is a great lack of thinking about users. The purpose of this study is to summarize a set of spatial planning indicators for the craft workshops, which will be used as a reference for planning craftsmen or workers who wish to set up workshops in the future. In the study, through the method of Delphi, There were interviewed as sixteen workshop leaders, including two scholars with creative experience. In the change of life style and the change of industry, Taiwan has gradually transformed the craft workshop from the manufacturing mode of the manufacturing industry to the business model of the service industry. In terms of results, production and production in space planning is no longer the most important factor to think about. Instead, education space and exhibition space have become the main planning elements.

To explore the narrative development in short animations from the perspective of academic and industry experts, this study adopts the following research objectives: (1) to understand the factors of short animation narratives based on a narratological analysis; (2) to identify, define the affinities of creating short animation from the perspectives of academic and industry experts and examine their correlations; (3) to establish and analyze conceptual maps of academic and industry experts. Through the processes of focus group discussion, individual in-depth interview, and interactive qualitative analysis, the conceptual maps depicting the context of experts' thoughts are developed. The experts agree that the target audience and core values (two of the eight affinities identified) are driving factors for the creation of short animation narratives. The divergent cognitions on character function(s) and production management in creating short animation need further investigation.

In this study, we aimed to address the following question related to ready-to-assemble furniture: What type of shape might affect the ability to be easily understood and improve efficiency during the assembly task? To this end, we added separate geometric and curve-shaped options to a joint-cube puzzle. We conducted a two-part experiment involving 35 participants whose actions were recorded and statistically analyzed. In the first part, we compared and analyzed the duration, number of errors, and number of spatial rotation actions in the assembly of three cube puzzles. The second part mainly compared changes in participants' mental behaviors with each shape option. The results indicated that adding geometric or curve characteristics to joint puzzles can reduce both visual interference and assembly duration. Further, we also found that geometric shape characteristics had a lower error rate while curve-shaped characteristics were associated with reduced assembly time.

Modern people often live in a state of tension. The demands for various stress-relieving methods and products are increasing. Therefore, in today's product design, the products with stress-relieving features (hereafter mentioned as "stress-relieving products") and related researches have become important topics and trends for the future. The purpose of this study is mainly to explore the ways of image design and the design characteristics in the shape of the stress-relieving products, and finally, to construct indicators for measuring the perception of the image design of the stress-relieving products. Through the 18 concept products, this research tests the suitability of indicators. Based on the data of the verification, this study infers that the "visual plus tactile" gives the users a higher degree of recognition, and can effectively relieve users' stress. At the same time, stress-relieving product must have an interesting shape, warm colors, and amiable materials. In addition, except for the appeared shape of the product, suitable materials and colors will signify the effect.

The application of metaphors in product design has the potential to enhance proucts' appeal and meaning to enrich product experiences. In response to the trend of metaphorical expressions in product designs becoming increasingly diverse, this study explored people's recognition and classification of many product metaphors to understand how people form meaning based on such metaphors. This paper proposes a framework to assist designers in creating metaphors in product designs. The research methodology entailed a card-sorting activity and interviews. The results of this study classify assorted product metaphors into nine themes and frame these nine themes within three modes - namely the iconic, indexical, and symbolic modes - to explain the process of product metaphor recognition. In addition, interpretation of metaphorical meaning through comparison and connection is discussed herein. The proposed conceptual framework could serve as a reference for designers for the creation of product metaphors to convey their design intentions and enrich consumers' product experiences.

Interest in "event consumption" has recently been increasing in Japan; accordingly, we propose a realization of a storytelling method. This paper reports a case study combining a story with a store. We focused on the degree of similarity of their images and combined a story and a store whose images were generally similar but different in detail. After evaluating images of stories and stores, principal component analysis yielded a comprehensive index and a particular one. We then combined a bookstore and a fantasy story, and then created and posted a concrete story structure on a website. Two experiments show that our proposal site gave participants the impression of an interesting, novel, and original experience that aroused an urge to visit this specific bookstore above ordinary bookstores. Thus, experiences organized as a story in a store could leave visitors with a positive impression through such a combination.

This paper takes altogether 40 front pages on every April 30th in the solar calendar each year of Shun Pao during 1872 to 1911 collected in Shanghai Library as the samples. Thus to explore the characteristics of font type and regularity principles of newspaper lines form arrangement by dint of literatures such as Sciences of Editions and History of Printing via observing, combing and analyzing. The study found that: Shun Pao Newspaper achieved constant layout design innovation upon the introduction of the founder, British people's advanced editing concepts and techniques with the change in Chinese local aesthetic conceptions. The names of the newspaper were displayed in the middle part at the top titled in calligraphy font with the characters in upsizing in the late Qing Dynasty. As for the master head, header and text part of the column, the printing characters were displayed by types in two font matrixes and sizes in 0.48*0.48 cm and 0.35*0.35 cm in the right-to-left arrangement. The layout for the first and second lines of the body text was mainly leaving four blank spaces at the beginning, or three blank spaces came second. The basic columns were varied from one column to multi-columns successively. Great differences were presented in the character sizes, letter-spacing and arrangement form between the publication date and the page number of the newspaper of the day. The layout arrangement developed in an evolution from book form to modern newspaper form.

Fires caused by the malfunction of "electrical equipment" is one of the main causes of home fire accidents. These accidents are often caused by improper use of electrical equipment, and without limiting children's access to electric plugs. This study enrolled preschool children at the age of 5-7 as the subjects and used two teaching methods, sequential images and prohibition images, to understand the differences in learning that affect preschoolers' use of improperly used electrical equipment leading to fires. A total of 63 preschool children aged 5-7 years were selected as subjects for testing. The results of the study found that: (1) Over 90% of preschoolers had somewhat of an understanding that pulling wires is an unsafe behavior; (2) Whether the family taught how to escape is the primary cause of influencing the perception of overall unsafe behavior; (3) Image teaching helps preschoolers understand the correct behavior better. (4) Using sequential images to teach preschoolers can better help them understand the causes and consequences of accidents and fire hazards.

This study clarifies how a design-led process functions and how it affects design output under particular managerial policies and contexts. While past studies have shown that having the design function take the lead role in the product development process is an effective way to increase the quality of design output, they have not sufficiently discussed the managerial policy conditions and context in which the design-led process functions effectively. Through a survey and analysis of Japanese and Korean manufacturing companies, this study quantitatively verifies how a design-led process in product development defines the key characteristics of final design output. In addition, it shows how managerial policies and managerial context affect the functioning of a design-led process in product development.
