This paper deals with the simple tension problems of an elastic solid with a elastic spherical inclusion. It is assumed that there are partially debonded interfaces between the interfaces of the inclusion and the matrix. We use a body force distribution method for the stress concentration problem. For this purpose, we apply the fundamental solution for axisymmetric body force problems of elasticity. Stress distributions around the inclusion are shown.

This paper deals with the stress concentration problem of an elastic plate with a slender elastic inclusion under tension. A method of solution is presented for the problem by using the Kelvin's solution in the two dimensional theory of elasticity. The problem is formulated by an integral equation with unknown body forces. Stress distributions around the inclusion are shown by numerical calcurations. Influences of the length of inclusion and the elastic constants on stress distributions are investigated.

One of the authors proposed a finite element model of an edge dislocation before, based on the mathematical model by the use of a dislocation of displacement. But, this model needs to rearrange the stiffness matrix for connecting nodal points. Now, we propose a new finite element model of a dislocation by initial strain which doesn't need to rearrange the stiffness matrix. Examples for analysis are an edge dislocation in an infinite region and one neighboring a free boundary. In these analysis, stress fields around the dislocation are calculated by FEM and compared with the analytical results. From the results, it is shown that the new model of dislocation is satisfactory enough to anlyze the dislocation problem by usual FEM program.

Automatic human health diagnosis measuring living body signals is expected to play a very important role in an aged society. A dramatic progress of remote monitoring and wearable computer technology is considered to be the foundation of such a technology. Aiming at the development of automatic human health diagnosis systems, we start developing a nonlinear multivariate analysis method for living body signals using a multilayer neural network. As the first step, we discuss a neural network-based algorithm to capture time varying signal measured from a living body under a normal health condition.

This paper presents the response of clamped laminated shallow shells with an internal resonance ω_1 ≈ ω_2, where ω_1 and ω_2 are the linear natural frequencies of the symmetric and asymmetric first vibration modes, respectively. The displacements are expressed using eigenvectors for linear vibration modes calculated by the Ritz method. Applying Galerkin's procedure to the equation of motion, non-linear differential equations are derived. The shooting method is used to obtaine the steady-state response when the driving frequency Ω is near ω_1. The modal interaction between the symmetric and asymmetrc modes is discussed.

In the pipe systems of atomic power and chemical plants, the bend angles of pipe bends which absurb the longitudinal thermal deformation of the straight pipes are relatively large. On the centrally, the angles of pipe bends with straight pipe lines are small. In this study, parametric survey of the pipe bands subjected to in-plane bending is analyzed by the finite element method Numerical examples are shown for pipe bends with different bend angles and the results are shown and discussed.

In this paper the experiments of static buckling behaviour and post-buckling dynamic behaviour of clamped shallow spherical shells under external pressure by Yainada are simulated by FE analysis. A locking free 9-node-shell element by mixed variational formulation previously discussed by authors is used The good agreements between static buckling behavior of experiments and that of FE analysis are obtained not only buckling pressures but also displacement distributions. Also the good agreements between post-buckling behaviours are obtained by using an external viscous damping modeling.

Recently, dynamic explicit FEM developed for the crash analysis of structures is applicable to the collision problem with large deformation and elasto-plastic collapse. According to the simplicity of computational algorithms and reduction of memory consumption in computer, explicit scheme is becoming popular tools. In the present report, theory of dynamic explicit FEM is applied and the post buckling behavior with very large deformation has been investigated considering influence of the displacement velocity. Particularly, the second buckling behavior observed in the post buckling behavior has been focused on.
