Good effects produced by a Micro Porous Layer (MPL) in the Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell (PEFC) are already verified with experimental techniques. In this paper, we examine them by a numerical approach using the finite element method.

In this paper, we focus our attention on the Krom et al. hydrogen diffusion model in materials and try to reconstruct our finite element model. It has the conservative advection term and the Galerkin method is applied for the first trial. The stabilization method will be applied in near future.

In this paper, a novel method of platform for regenerative medicine are proposed and experimentally demonstrated. To realize a regenerative medicine, it is key issue to measure not only the cell-cell interactions and communications but the cell-tissue interactions. We have developed single-mask fabrication method for high aspect-ratio embedded micro-channels and high-density arrayed micro-orifices to measure the cell-cell communications for more than several thousand cells simultaneously. To stimuli the target cells and/or to bring foreign substances, such as genes and drugs, into the cells, we have also developed the high-efficiency low-voltage (typically 1.5V) electroporation method and demonstrated its efficiency.

This paper describes a robot control strategy for a human-robot dynamical interaction system. In many studies, the impedance control (or the admittance control) of the motion of a robot has generally been used. The impedance control is designed to generate familiar and intuitive robot motion for a human. It is provided to enable smooth interaction between the human operator and the robot. It is expected that a nursing care or a power-assist robot system will be developed using this control strategy. These systems provide a complementary relationship between the human and the robot. In this paper, human-robot interaction systems are introduced and their control strategies are explained.

Production network refers to a line of economic activities in which firms buy intermediate goods from "upstream" firms, put added-values on them, and sell the goods to "downstream" firms or consumers in the end of the line. The entire line of these processes of putting added-values in turn forms a giant network of production ranging from upstream to downstream, down to consumers. Each process of production also requires labor and financing as inputs. Thus, production, labor and finance are the three corner stones for all economic activities. Net sum of added values in production network is basically the net total production, that is, GDP. While production network, its structure and temporal change are crucial in understanding macro-economic dynamics, little has been hitherto studied about them. In this talk, we report on uncovered large-scale features of production network comprising of a million firms (nodes) and millions of transactions (links) among them in Japan. We also talk about applications, epsecially to the problem of chain of bankruptcies, that would be potentially derived from the network informatics of real-data.

We present the result of our work on the role of genetic representation in facilitating quick design of efficiently running offline learning via genetic programming (GP). An approach of using the widely adopted DOM/XML standard for representation of genetic programs and off-the-shelf DOM-parsers with build-in API for manipulating them is proposed. The approach features significant reduction of time consumption of usually slow software engineering of GP and offers a generic way to facilitate the reduction of computational effort by limitation of search space of genetic programming via handling of only semantically correct genetic programs. The concept is accomplished through strongly typed genetic programming (STGP), in which the use of W3C-recommended standard XML schema is proposed as a generic way to represent and impose the grammar rules in STGP. The ideas laid in the foundation of the proposed approach are verified on the implementation of GP for evolving social behavior of agents in predator prey pursuit problem.

A mismatch of material properties in joints may cause stress singularities, which lead to the failure of the bonding part. It is very important to reveal a stress singularity field for evaluating the strength of interface in three-dimensional joints. Furthermore, thermal residual stresses occur in a cooling process after bonding the joints, and the stress singularity for thermal stresses also occur. In the present study, the intensity of singular field at the edge in the interface Si-resin joint with different thickness in silicon is investigated using boundary elemant method.
