BEM (Blade Element and Momentum) theory is useful for load calculation of wind turbines, as hundreds cases of load calculation are needed to be made, considering aero-elastic behavior and contributions of controllers. Modeling of tower shadow effects is essential for design of downwind turbines, which are promising in complex terrains. Present study proposes a new modeling method for tower shadow effects on the basis of load equivalence. It considers aerodynamic interaction between rotor and tower and transient characteristics of blades passing through tower wake. Those phenomena were ignored in former modeling, which are defined on the basis of wind speed profile behind isolated tower. Load equivalent model of SUBARU80/2.0 2MW downwind turbine was defined based on load transients calculated by wind turbine CFD in power production condition. The model was verified through field tests. Furthermore, a case study made clear that former models provide 10-25% larger fatigue loads than the present proposed load equivalent model.

A coupled MM5-MASCON system is developed for wind energy resource estimation andprediction with varying scales from mesoscale to microscale. MM5-MASCON is able to provide high-resolution images of the wind speed and wind direction at hub heights. The bias error of long-term mean wind speeds between model and observation is reduced to within 1.0 m/s, which is a practical level for wind energy resource assessment. Additionally, it is found that the computational cost is quite low enough to be applied to microscale wind power estimation.

The basic aero-dynamical characteristics of the rotating single-blade was investigated utilizing the lifting-line theory.
The fundamental integral equation was solved numerically by Runge-Kutta method, equipped in the computer aided design tool named MATLAB&SIMULINK system.
This note emphasizes the feasibility of the method, providing the results of parametric research according to several main parameters like an aspect ratio, sweepback angle, taper-ratio and asymmetry of the rotor-blade.
