Authors have shown the joint strength of C/C composites and titanium brazed joint with variation in the comiplation direction of plies. When the brazing interface paralell to the ply's surface, the joint strength was low, and to the contrary, the brazing interface perpendicular to the ply's surface had high joint strength. In this report, the effect of the long fiber direction in the ply to the joint interface is investigated.

The large scale liquid fuel rocket engin's nozzle skirt assemble is a pipe structure manufactured by brazing of pipes. The four-pipe brazed specimen is used to investigate the pipe-brazed joint strength. The influence of the gap between pipes in the brazed joint is evaluated by the finite elemnt analysis and the tensile fracture tests.

In-the-air brazing of SUS304 stainless steel and alumimum is disturbed by the strong oxide film on the stainless steel. The zinc chloride in the flux is utilized to break this oxide film on the stainless steel in the short time. In this report, the influence of zinc chloride concentration in the flux is investigated by wetting test of Al-Si brazing filler on the stainless steel.

Deformation mode of high purity aluminum during friction stir spot welding was analyzed by means of a combined measurement system of load cell and thermocouple. The estimated flow stress around the rotating pin was 21MPa and the strain rate were estimated as 1.4 s-1 at a welding temperature of 216 degree C. These values were plotted in the deformation map produced by M.F.Ashby, and the deformation mode of the present material was in the range of dynamic recrystallization.

Friction stir lap joining of pure titanium under position control was carried out. Relationship between welding parameters and defect types and tensile property of the sound joints were investigated in detail. The sound joints with high failure loads were obtained at 250rpm and 75mm/min (200rpm and 50mm/min), and the fractures happened in the base metal.

Commercially pure Cu plates were friction stir welded with SiC powders. The microstructure can be refined by the addition of SiC powders, which acted as the nucleation site for the recrystallized Cu grains. No reactions between the copper and the SiC particles were detected. For 1 pass FSWed sample, hardness increased but with hardness drops in some localized areas. While hardness profile become uniform after 2 pass due to the homogenous distribution of SiC powders.

A cone-shaped A5056 stud bolt was friction-welded on to A5083 plate in the air. Joining at lower torque was enabled using the Zn insert. The nanoindentation measurement showed that the hardness was decreased in the Zn rich layer. Micro-tensile test showed that strength at the edge of the joint was higher than that at the center.
