The in-process quality control system has been systematized utilizing optical sensor and computer. This system consisted of three main systems, i.e. the monitoring system for welding condition, the monitoring system for weld pool shape, and the visualization system for weld bead shape. The in-process quality control system realized the improvement of weld quality and the efficiency upgrade of welding operation.

It was reported that welding imperfection was predicted with high accuracy by thermal elastic-plastic analysis
based on the infinitesimal deformation theory. On the other way, in the case that the ultimate strength of thin plate is predicted, elastic-plastic large deformation analysis is carried out. In this paper, the significance of welding imperfection obtained from thermal elastic-plastic analysis based on the large deformation is elucidated.

Although it is well known that X-ray residual stress measurement in weld of Ni based alloy is generally difficult, by the combination of two-dimensional detector and multi-axial rocking, the residual stress distribution obtained from the deformation of debye-ring. And then, it is confirmed that improvement effect by water jet peening was effective for the SCC in the weld.

As the countermeasure against PWSCC, the water jet peening (WJP), which can change tensile stress into the compressive stress, has been applied to welded joints. The stability of the compressive stress induced by WJP has been examined by using ring type specimen processed by WJP.The result has shown that the compressive stress by the WJP on the tensile stressed specimen remains stable in the long term operation at 620K.

Residual stress distributions at piping weld caused by repair welding were obtained from experiments and FE analyses. Repair welding at the outer surface caused increase of tensile stress at the inner surface. The change in residual stress was evaluated quantitatively by varying the groove depth and length of repair welding.

Authors are suggesting the method of three-dimensional structure fabrication by molten metal lamination. This is made it out of laminating welding bead by the NC controlled XYZ stage to trace the path of welding torch.
At this report, authors weighed the mechanical strength of heat proof metal materials for welding fabricated by molten metal lamination on the assumption that materials would be used for die & mold to use at a high temperature.

The electric resistance value depends on the type and temperature of material, and current-carrying area in resistance spot welding. The current-carrying area depends on the electrode force and yield stress of material. In this study, mild steel and stainless steel were used to discuss about the difference of the electric resistance at an early in the spot welding.

On the dissimilar joining combination of galvanealed steel sheet and aluminum alloy sheet, KOBE STEEL has already reported that the means of one more addition of steel on the outside of galvanealed steel had brought the good mechanical joint properties. This paper reports the intimate observations of the joining interface comparing with conventional combination without addition.
