It has been reported that short-term intensive English courses abroad are effective in improving students’ English language skills in various ways. They often lead students also to further English study. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, it has been very difficult to conduct any activities overseas since 2020. Therefore, we planned to hold an intensive English course in Japan, with the assistance of native English-speaking teachers and international students. If the course can achieve a certain level of effectiveness, it could function as an alternative activity that is easier for students to participate in, in terms of cost as well. As a result, such courses could also motivate students to engage in further activities in international context after the situation improves, in order to become global engineers in the future.

In Sakamoto Town, Yatsushiro City, which was damaged by Downpour disaster in July 2nd year of Reiwa Period, many houses have applied for dismantling at public expense. Of these houses, our survey was conducted on the S Residence which was a historical Japanese-style house, for the purpose of the preservation of the record. This was actually dismantled in June 3rd year of Reiwa Period. This paper clarified the architectural characteristic of the S Residence and the characteristic common to historic Japanese-style houses in Sakamoto Town. The characteristics of the S Residence are that the landlord was an influential person and that there were many Sukiya-style designs. The common characteristics of Sakamoto Town were formed by the location condition that the depth of the residential land is narrow because the topography was slope, and the historical background such as the construction of the Arase Dam. Also we investigated the well which was going to be removed and rebuilt.

Botchan is a carnivalized literature. An analysis of chapter 9 and 10 reveals the conditions for carnival in Botchan. The conditions are that there must be official statements, withdrawal of authority, slapstick violence, and diverse voices. These conditions make Botchan a carnivalized literature. And the place of narrative is also carnivalized. The voice of Ore, the narrator of Botchan is heard as one of diverse voices. There is time and space of carnival in the place of narrative. Botchan is filled with a carnival sense of the world (Bakhtin).

Assistive technology utilizing IT can widen the range of support for handicapped people. It is predicted that the needs for assistive technologies will increase in the future. In order to provide assistive devices, it is necessary to train engineers who are familiar with computer programming and also related IT field and can develop them. This paper introduces the curriculum design of computer engineering, especially computer programming, of an IT department in National Institute of Technology (KOSEN), Kumamoto College. The department is named Department of Human-Oriented Information Systems Engineering, aims to train IT engineers who are familiar with IT fields with having creativity and rich emotion. The computer programming education is in a five-year consistent curriculum and is structured so that students can acquire programming skills from the 1st grade to the 3rd grade and apply them into major subjects in the 4th and 5th grades. Computer programming education is positioned as a fundamental and important part of this curriculum. This paper shows that the curriculum of the department fits to curriculum standard in computer engineering, and introduces such subjects related to computer programming, their relevance to other subjects, and specific examples.

For graded modules whose first syzygies are generated by elements of the same degree, to have a component-wise linear syzygy so actually to have linear syzygy is equivalent to that there exists a regular sequence whose length is equal to the Kull dimension of the base ring. This is the main result of this two-part series of papers, which is also a partial extension of the result of Watanabe and Harima, see Ref(1). In the first part of papers, here we give some preparatory results, especially, we introduce the weak regular sequence in the category of finitely generated graded modules over a polynomial ring whose coefficient field is an infinite field and give some fundamental results concerning the weak regular sequence.

This is the last part of this two-part series of papers, here, we introduce the regular sequence in the category of finitely generated graded modules over a polynomial ring whose coefficient field is an infinite field. For a nonzero principal graded module, its first syzygy ideal being a completely full, is equivalent to that the principal module has a regular sequence whose length is equal to the Kull dimension of the base polynomial ring. This is the result of Watanabe and Harima, see Ref(1). We extend the result as follows. For graded modules whose first syzygies are generated by elements of the same degree, to have a component-wise linear syzygy so actually to have linear syzygy is equivalent to that there exists a regular sequence whose length is equal to the Kull dimension of the base ring.

We give a criterion for an Artinian graded module over a polynomial ring in two variables to have weak Lefschetz property or not by using the classification of indecomposable representations of the 2-Kronecker quiver. As an application, we can recover the well-known result that all principal Artinian graded modules over a polynomial ring in two variables have weak Lefschetz properties.

Big data includes data such as PDFs, audios, images, and videos, which are called unstructured data, and data scientists need to have the skills to process those data. This research aims at education on unstructured data processing of images and videos. Regarding tensor data processing, we have been developing tools and learning materials that are useful for learning it. Furthermore, we have been conducting education using them. This time, as an applied content of the education, we introduce the education of image / video processing using HOSVD, which is one of the tensor decomposition, into subjects of our advanced course and department. Therefore, this paper describes that case. As a result, it was found that students could generally perform the processing by applying HOSVD.

Six-membered ring compound 1,4-cyclohexadiene (1,4-CHD) was synthesized from fish oil containing EPA and DHA. The 1,4-CHD was then converted to bromobenzene by bromination followed by dehydrobromination. The use of a phase transfer catalyst was effective in the dehydrobromination, and no heating was required in all processes. Fish oil is a potential natural resource, and this study is aimed for a way to biomass shifts in the organic chemical industry

The causal relationship between the number of failing subjects on an exam and each subject were analyzed by means of structural equation modeling (SEM). The data used were the results of the first semester final examinations of sophomore belonging to the Department of Information, Communication and Electronic Engineering of Kumamoto National College of Technology. Since these data provide unsuitable solution, a stepwise method was applied to extract four subjects that affect the number of failing subjects. These subjects are mathematics, physics, computer engineering and engineering practice, which are the base of science and engineering. I also determined the number of latent variables by means of scree plots and dendrograms. Then I propose a causal model in which one latent variables behind the four subjects affect the number of failing subjects. The lavaan package on R was used to apply the SEM. From the goodness-of-fit indices, it was found that the model explained well the causal relationship related to the number of failing subjects.

The other world on Irish folktales can be found as habitats of supernatural beings or the world where such beings exist. Ireland has not only its rich oral traditions among the ordinary people but also medieval manuscripts written by Christian monks that include mythical and hero tales, the stories of saints’ pilgrimages over the seas, geographical descriptions, laws and so on. Both of the Irish treasure provide us various unique and diverse descriptions of the other world, mythical gods/goddesses, and fairies. The author has been researching on Irish and British oral literatures to clarify the concept of the other world, picking up the examples of the tales and classifying them. Reading the preceding researches made me notice that the definition of the word other world was not always same or clear. Before the research proceeds, it is indispensable to make the definition of the other world clear at first. The purpose of this report is to clarify the definition of the word other world through several preceding researches.

In recent years, it has become easy to construct advanced IoT systems by using a wide variety of cloud services. In this paper, I propose an exercise to build an IoT system by combining multiple cloud services. In this paper, I propose an exercise to build an IoT system by combining multiple cloud services. As an example of the exercise, I construct a system for monitoring elderly people. The students tried the exercise and constructed a system in which the guardian can check the temperature and humidity data of the guardian's house at any time via a storage server. The observed data is converted into a spreadsheet when it is written to the storage. The data is converted into a spreadsheet when it is written to the storage, and a voice interface is available for the guardian to check the status.

Anodic porous alumina consists of regularly arrayed cells, which are hollow hexagon cylinders made of aluminum oxide with a nanopore at their center. We experimentally investigate polarization properties of the reflected light from a commercially available anodic porous alumina film in the visible region. The experimental result shows that the structural parameters of anodic porous alumina, such as nanopore size and a pore interval (cell size), have a large effect on the polarization properties. This implies that the effective refractive index of the anodic porous alumina can be dominantly determined from the nanopore size and the pore interval.
