Dolomite plaster consists of MgO, Mg (OH)
2 and Ca (OH)
2. It was observed that the hardening mechanism of the plaster by the addition of MgCl
2 solution with decreasing the ratio of Ca (OH)
2 in the dolomite plaster by carbonating. The carbonated dolomite plaster were investigated by X-ray analysis, differential thermal analysis and chemical analysis.
(1) It is necessary to admix a little water for carbonation of dolomite plaster or calcined dolomite.
(2) The carbonation reaction was needed to be continued for a long time.
(3) It is not influenced by the temperature at the time of reaction.
(4) The carbonated dolomite plaster was hardened by MgCl
2 solution, but the setting time is short.
