We report on one kind of green luminescent sintered porous glass which is doped with Tb3+, Gd3+, and Ce3+. The glass can emit strong green luminescence by excitation of long wavelength UV sources. The fluorescence spectra reveal that the strong luminescence is mainly originated from the 5D4-7F5 transition of Tb3+. There are several possible energy transfer mechanisms, that is, the energy transfer directly from Ce3+ to Tb3+, or energy transfer from Ce3+ to Gd3+, and then to Tb3+. It is found that the fluorescence is mainly dominated by energy transfer from Ce3+ to Tb3+.

Red-fluorescent glass was prepared by sintering of silica porous glass after immersed in Eu-containing solution. High emission efficiency with excitation of near-UV region above 350nm was obtained by selection of co-doped elements. As the co-doped element, rare earth element was effective to increase the luminescence intensity. Vanadium co-doping produced excitation band at around 330nm. The ratio of Eu and co-doped elements is important to obtain the high efficiency and transmittance.

For a new high-permittivity microwave ceramics, SrTiO
3-NaNbO
3 system was investigated. We predicted this high-permittivity of SrTiO
3-NaNbO
3 system by traditional dielectric theories, and we examined its dielectric properties on microwave band. As a result, the highest permittivity of 1490 was found at 0.175SrTiO
3-0.825NaNbO
3. This system is thought to have high potentials for new progressive microwave applications.

We synthesized a candidate ferroelectric oxide, Bi
1/2Ag
1/2TiO
3(BATO) under an oxygen pressure of about 1 MPa and investigated its structure and dielectric properties. According to a powder synchrotron X-ray diffraction and second harmonic generation (SHG) experiments, BATO is a polar perovskite-type oxide with an anti-phase tilt of TiO
6 octahedra. We also discuss the phase transition of BATO based on the results of high-temperature powder X-ray diffraction and the temperature dependences of dielectric permittivities and SHG intensity.

We prepared phosphers that coated Y
2O
3:Eu on the surface of the YSZ ball. The alginic acid salt was formed by doing the reaction of the ion cross-linking reaction with the addition of the YSZ ball covered with the alginic acid to the solution including Ca, Ti, and Pr, and target phosphors was obtained by calcining the alginic acid salt.
The influence that the film thickness gave to the photo luminescence (PL) and electronic luminescence (EL) was investigated by making the thick film to arrange phsphores with sphere and uniform size, and measuring a fluorescent making specially.

There has been a growing demand for high performance nanosized oxide phosphor materials to develop novel and cost-performance flat-panel displays and all-solid-state light sources. In this study, we prepared nanosized spherical Y2O3:Eu phosphor particles by a water/oil (W/O) emulsion method using carboxymethyl cellulose ion-exchange polymer as a thickening agent and emulsion stabilizer. The phase, shape, morphology, and photoluminescence property of the obtained nanophosphor powder were examined by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and fluorescence spectrometry, respectively.

We fabricated nanocrystalline barium titanate (BaTiO
3) thin films by EPD on conductive (001) SrTiO
3 substrates and could convert them into epitaxial thin film below 1000˚C. BaTiO
3 nanoparticles, used for EPD, with diameters in the range 8-10 nm were synthesized by a high-concentration alkoxide sol-gel method, and EPD was carried out at 5V for 5min. BaTiO
3 nanoparticles thin films before and after firing were subjected to phase and crystallographic analyses using X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy.
