Bright Cadmium plating, Cadmium-Titanium Alloy plating and Nickel-Cadmium Plating were evaluated for hydrogen embrittlement characteristics. Slow deflection fracture test with the flat bending specimens having different strength levels were carried out in order to determine embrittlement susceptibility of these plated steels. Douglas stress ring test and Boeing hydrogen detection instrument test were carried out in order to confirm the correlation with slow deflection fracture test. Post embrittlement phenomenon was studied by sustained bending test in 3% NaCl solution. Several new informations were obtained from these experiments. Scanning election micrographs of fractured surface of Douglas stress ring showed a intergranular pattern due to hydrogen embrittlement.
