The aim of this investigation is to clarify genetic and environmental effects on the habits of caffeine beverage intake. Type A behavior of267females(age :20-21)living in Akita prefecture were scored by KG type A scale. Those females were also asked by questionnaire about caffeine beverage intake. Nacetyltransferase genotypes of101 females included in267objectives were determined by allelespecific amplification of DNA fragments. During this research, following results were obtained. 1.Though association of type A behavior and the frequency of caffeine beverage intake were not observed, the group composed of the objectives who drink caffeine beverage during examination term indicate higher type A score than the group composed of no caffeine drinkers during that term. 2.The ratio of caffeine drinkers was lower in slow acetylator group than middle and rapid acetylator group. It is expected that these results will be the beginning to elucidate the background of the habits of caffeine beverage intake.
