The Osaki CoolGen Project subsidized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (until
FY2015) and New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (from FY2016) is
a project with the aim of achieving an innovative low-carbon coal-fueled power plant that
combines Integrated Coal Gasification Fuel Cell Combined Cycle (IGFC) with CO2 capture. This
paper explains outline and progress of the project.
Biomass may contain high concentrations of alkali metals such as potassium, and problems
such as poor flow and ash adhesion are expected in the biomass fluidized bed boiler. From the
investigation of the agglomeration and fouling, the quantitative correlation with alkali metals and
the effect of additives were obtained.
