Rehabilitation does not only aim to improve physical function, but also aims broadly to "return to a state appropriate for the individual. "How should those around the individual interact with the individual so that they can live life as they wish? This is an important theme that we consider for each individual patient.
Here, we will introduce some cases in which we worked with people in the engineering and welfare fields on patients with severe disabilities who had difficulty walking. We have once again realized the importance of collaboration with people in a wide range of fields in order to help these people live the life they desire.
The study aimed to evaluate the potential of using wearable devices and tablet terminals to visualize heart rates in real-time during group hiking as an effective means to enhance hiking safety. The participants were eight healthy adults with no prior hiking experience. The hiking route chosen for the study was the 7 km course from Ashiyagawa to Ikkenchaya. Heart rates were measured using wearable sports heart rate monitors, and an application capable of displaying and recording multiple individuals’ heart rates in real-time on a single tablet device was used. Real-time visualization of heart rates was found to be feasible even during outdoor hiking activities. Both hiking leaders and participants could objectively assess physical strain based on heart rate data, suggesting that this approach could serve as an effective safety management measure by accounting for physiological stress levels.
We conducted a study on the amount of sweating and fluid intake during walking football (WF) games in summer. The subjects of the survey were 82 people (64 men and 18 women) aged between 47 and 76. The survey was conducted over four days. The average WBGT over the four days was between 24.7 and 28.8 ℃ . The amount of sweat rate ranged from 367 to 495 g/h. The amount of sweat tended to increase on days when the WBGT was high. The rate of hydration relative to the amount of sweat was 64-79%. However, a negative correlation was observed between the hydration rate and age. The hydration rate was highest in the group where the proportion of sports drinks to total fluid intake was 50 % or more. Based on these results, it is necessary to promote heatstroke prevention measures during WF training.
