The writer, during his sojourn in Basrah, Iraq for 1 year and 9 months following his arrival there for a new post, had tried on expedition into northern and eastern regions in Iraq 8 times altogether in search of indigenous butterflies. In the series of expeditions named "Operation Sindbad" which was taken after the lucky sailor adventurer in the Arabian Nights, the writer, in addition to collecting various kinds of insects amounting to approximately 11,000, had had opportunities to familiarize himself with the interesting biology of Allancastria cerisyi and Doritis apollinus, and also succeeded in discovering the larvae of Thaleropis ionia, thereby taking an obvious hint in its entomological classification. Furthermore, the writer discovered a then unknown Apaturinae butterfly in Amadiya. It must have been sheer fortune that this beautiful butterfly that had been screened for such a long time undiscovered until then by anyone else was suffered to the discovery of the writer. I was not less fortunate in this discovery than Sindbad was in his voyages. Finally, the writer wishes to extend his sincere thanks to Allah and to Mr. Matheus Toma, the writer's good collaborator.
