Carbon dioxide (CO
2) emitted from fossil fuel combustion is a major contributor to global warming, and this has triggered efforts aimed at reducing CO
2 discharge. Silicon (Si) is positioned blow carbon (C) in the periodic table, and its properties are similar to those of C; however, silicon oxide or silica (SiO
2) is considered as an important material in the concrete and optical fiber industries, unlike CO
2. Therefore, should we say that CO
2 is “a material we do not know how to use” rather than “an annoying material?” Thus, we propose a method for converting carbon dioxide into more useful alternatives.
