In the paper the writers touch upon the characteristics of the calcão of the so-called Namban costume, by reference to the extant examples of the contemporary Japanese trousers called “Kalsan”. They further point out the possible influences of the Western trousers on these Kalsans comparing to the extant example of the contemporary Western trousers.
The writers confirm the characteristics of the Kalsan being very wide in circumference and reaching to below the knee by the making up and wearing the same Kalsans as the said two.
As for the materials of the calcão, the writers judge that most of the pictorial costume of figures in the folding paper screen wearing the contemporary Western-style costume were possibly dipicted the “Veludo” by reference to many kinds of extant veludo in the National Costume Museum, Lisbon.
