Methylandrostenediol (MAD), androstanolone (ASL), and 19-norsteroids and their esters were injected into castrated male rats and levator ani muscle, penis, adrenal, kidney, etc., were removed and their weights were determined to be compared. The anabolic and androgenic activities of these steroids were examined.
1) Each five mg. of MAD,

-propionate, MAD-17-propionate, and

, 17-dipropionate was administered once a day for 5 days. On following such days after injection as 5th, 10th and 15th day, each levator ani muscle and seminal vesicles were removed and weighed, With the comparison of these weights, it was shown that the activities of esters were inferior than the free MAD. Among these esters, 3-propionate was superior than other esters in activities. 10mg. of each steroids and their esters were injected once a day for 5 days, and in the comparison on the 5th day, the best result was given with MAD and followed with 3-propionate.
2) Each one mg. of ASL, ASL-valerate, ASL-heptanoate, MAD, MAD-heptanoate and testosterone propionate was injected once a day for 10 days, and after the completion of injection, levator ani muscle, seminal vesicle, and prostate gland were removed and weighed to be compared. The good durable activities were shown with either ASL-valerate or ASL-heptanoate, and a pretty strong vililism was shown with ASL-valerate. The same male hormone activity was shown by an experiment in which each 5mg. of steroids and esters was injected only once into the animals to be sacrificed after 10 days, 20 days and 30 days.
3) Each one mg. of 19-nor-testosterone phenylpropionate (19-nor-TPP), 19-nor-methyltestosterone (19-nor-MT), ASL-valerate and TP was injected once a day for 10 days into male rats, and after the completion of injection, namely on the following day, after 5 days and 10 days, levator ani muscle, seminal vesicle and prostate gland were removed and weighed to be compared. This experiment showed 19-nor-TPP was the strongest in anabolic activity and durable in its action. 19-nor-MT had the same anabolic activiry as the 19-nor-TPP on the following day after injection, but it had no durability. As to sexual glands, 19-nor-TPP had weaker activity than TP or ASL-valerate and 19-nor-MT.
Each five mg. of experimental substances was injected. These experimental results after 5 days, 10 days and 20 days had the similar tendency as the experiment in which 1 mg. x 10 days was injected. In which the low doses of steroids and esters were used, namely 31.25γ (only 19-nor-TPP used), 62.5γ and 250γ were injected once a day for 10 days and sacrificed on the following day after injection and after 10 days. These experimental results had the similar tendencies as the former experiments in which 5mg. of subsances were used.
4) The supressing effects on the weights of the thymus glands and adrenals were proportionally strong as to the anabolic and androgenic activity. And the increasing effect on the weight of kidney was high in line with the both actions.
