    The
    Okamura
    fault, a segment of the Median Tectonic Line active fault system, is a master active fault along a northern range front of the Shikoku Range with well-defined geomorphic features related to its late Quaternary faulting. We have excavated five sites across the
    Okamura
    fault at Iioka, Saijo City, to date the times of recent faultings and surface-rupturing earthquakes. This paper summarizes geological characterisitics and late Holocene activity of the
    Okamura
    fault by comparing individual trenching studies, which have been reported by previous several papers.
    The
    Okamura
    fault trends N80°E and dips with high angle to almost vertical fault plane. This fault offsets all sediments except for artificially modified and cultivated soil immediately below the ground surface. Multiple V-shaped flower structures are recognized in the sediments near the top of the fault zone, and these are interpreted to have been formed by filling coseismic ground fissures associated with surface rupturing earthquakes. The most recent faulting on the
    Okamura
    fault is estimated to have occurred during the 4th to 7th century A. D. and several older events are also recognized in these outcrops by trench excavations. The recurrence interval is about 1000 years or slightly longer.
    A silty layer exposed on the north and south sides of the fault in trench ifi is offset rightlaterally 5.7meters. This lateral slip is associated with the latest event. The angular gravels of the Cretaceous Izumi Group which crops out in the upper reach of stream“a”southwest of the study area, are contained only at lower horizons on the north side of the fault. This observation suggests cumulative right-lateral displacement along this fault. The sedimentary environment of alluvial fan area has progressively changed with the lateral movement and largely different faces of sediments on the both sides of the fault were caused by the cumulative lateral offset

    The development of sorus of Undaria undarioides (Yendo)

    and Ecklonia cava Kjellman has been observed. In all of three
    species both the zoosporangia and paraphyses originate from the meristoderm of the blade.
    In Undaria undarioides and Ecklonia cava, the mode of the development of sorus is Laminaria-
    type. In Eckloniopsis radicosa, the cuticle of the superficial cells is stripped on the
    way of sorus development. This fact seems to suggest that Eckloniopsis radicosa is identical
    in the mode of sorus development with Chorda filum

    “…it's the simple that complicates.” Herbert Blau, Take Up the Bodies
    Intercultural theatre has spawned many different kinds of hybrids. Recently the interweaving of different cultures and theatrical styles has become extremely subtle. Among those who devise such complex intercultural theatre are creator-dramaturg-director Phillip Zarrilli and playwright-director Yôjirô
    Okamura
    . They use primarily Asian aesthetic principles and training methods in combination with non-Asian ideas and dramatic content to construct highly experimental performances.
    This paper will compare their employment of quietude as a central concept in their respective work. Quietude is a Japanese aesthetic principle of minimalism that comprises mainly silence, stillness, and open space. It can include masks and tends towards a “poor” theatre, where the actor's physical presence is dominant on stage. Both artists have a substantial knowledge of nô, as well as postdramatic aesthetics. Furthermore effective actor training is crucial in creating a quiet “theatrical moment”. To this end, Zarrilli utilizes Indian kalaripayattu martial arts, while
    Okamura
    combines nô acting with modern training methods.
    Specifically I will discuss Told by the Wind (2009), which Zarrilli devised with the Llanarth Group, and
    Okamura
    's Aminadab (1997; rev. 2008). The former piece ’dances’ a mindscape where “identity, memory, and remembrance haunt transformation”; it owes its inspiration to string theory as well as to Shôgo Ôta's theatre of divestiture. The latter play makes use of masks to present a theatrical arrangement of Maurice Blanchot's short story, “L'Arret de mort”.

It consisted of basic human needs of seven social lives. “A demand of economic stability”, “A professional stable demand”, “A family's stable demand”, “A demand of security of health and medical treatment”, “A demand of educational security”, “A demand of the opportunity of social participation or social collaboration”, and “A demand of the opportunity of culture and amusement.” Then, Basic human needs of seven social lives in students were surveyed.

    本誌第24巻第1号(1973)に村山修一・岡村八郎両氏共著のフィリピン,ルソン島の蝶についての論文が発表されたが,一読して大変誤りの多いのに気付いた.採集された蝶のうち,単に名前だけがリスト風に並べられているだけで写真の付されていない種類については判断のしようもなく,しかもそれが大部分を占めているが,少なくとも写真を示されている種類に関する限り研究に疎漏さが目立ち,折角の珍らしいフィリピンの蝶に関する論文が惜しまれてならない.本稿では特に両氏が新種または新亜種とされたシジミチョウ科8種およびセセリチョウ科1種の計9種に限ってその誤りを指摘した.

    The researches in metamorphic rocks in Japan have so much progressed in recent years that the granites are now regarded as the subjects not to be neglected, in the studies of metamorphism. And great efforts are being made in the field of granite problem. It was the reason why the present symposium was held at the 11th Annual Meetiug of the Association. But, as is well known, the problems of granite are so comprehensive that it was advisable to restrict the subjects to a certain aspect of the problems.     This paper intends to present issues in the study of family welfare. For this purpose, I focus on and reconsider the studies of family welfare by Sigeo
    Okamura
    . His studies are theoretical and systematic. They are based on his own "Theory by
    Okamura
    " , which develops its own identity of social welfare. He defines a family as "modern family", and emphasizes the integration of the well-being of family members and their functional roles. But, due to the changes in families since about 1975, promoting family functions has not always led family members to their well-being. His basic concepts of family welfare do not fit the reality of family life. Therefore, it is necessary to build new concepts of family welfare. For this purpose, I propose to discuss basically the place and role of family in social welfare, by constructive criticism of his studies. Then, I clarify the importance of studies on family caregiving and the value of family.

    Four morphologically-different populations based on the blade shape of Ecklonia stolonifera
    Okamura
    were found from the small island of Nakanoshima, Dozen, Oki Islands, Shimane Prefecture, Japan. There are a very similar in shape to Ecklonia kurome
    Okamura
    but the shoot has a short and oblong central blade with well developed lateral pinnate bladelets, a slender central blade with slender lateral pinnate bladelets, a round central blade with short lateral pinnate bladelets and a long stipe and bigger blade with a dentate margin and lack of lateral bladelets. Evaluation and principal component analysis of the four different blade shape population was made based on the size and characteristics of various parts of the blade. However, these four morphologically-different populations were not distinguished by the results of the molecular analysis of the ITS-1. We concluded that the each population is a different four blade types strain.

    As already reported,
    OKAMURA
    found that water affinity of fish flesh as appraised by the factor of water intake he proposed was reduced to a minimum by a certain small addition of salt.
    In the present work, the authors, employing a refrigeratory centrifuge improved in enabling said factor to be measured even in hot summer days, made again certain of the above
    OKAMURA
    's disclosure and further determined the salt concentration which suppressed the protein solubility of fish flesh to a minimum. The results obtained are summarized as follows:
    i) By means of said refrigeratory centrifuge, determination of the factor of water intake can be carried out quite neatly without causing denaturation even in summer; statistical error range of the present method was less than 8.2% as the factor of water intake, the factor of water intake being evaluated on 5 % significance level.
    ii) In perfect agreement with the
    OKAMURA
    's proposition, a salt such as NaCl, MgCl2, MgSO4, K-phosphate, Na-pyrophosphateft††, and Na3-citrate, at a certain concentration according to his previous definition reduces the factor of water intake to a minimum value (†: Equimolar mixture of K2HPO4 and KH2PO4 ††: Na4P2O7 was used after neutralization with HCl.).
    iii) While the amount of soluble protein in centrifugal supernatant is also minimized at a certain salt concentration, this concentration is somewhat lower than that which corresponds to the minimum of the factor of water intake.

    Background: As stated in the ESC guidelines for cardiac pacing, ventricular septal pacing (VSP) has the advantage of preserving the LV function over right ventricular apical pacing after a permanent pacemaker implantation. Previously we reported that ICD/CRT-D shock leads are not suitable for VSP, because of the possibility of a micro-dislodgement by the lead’s own weight. As proof of this, ventricular pacing by using a pacemaker lead caused no such trouble during the observation period.
    Case Report: An 80-year-old man was referred for a DDD pacemaker implantation because of advanced atrioventricular block. VSP was administered by a screw-in lead. A stable ventricular voltage of more than 11.2 mV, and pacing threshold of 0.5 V/0.4 ms were kept for a year. According to the automatic measurements, a sudden decrease in the ventricular voltage and unstable pacing threshold occurred one year after the implantation. An X-ray of the chest showed the ventircular lead dislodgement, and therefore a lead exchange was performed. A histopathological analysis of the adherent tissue on the lead-tip revealed a fibrotic structure.
    Discussion: The device telemetry demonstrated normal values before the lead dislodgement. VSP by using a pacemaker lead has the same risk of lead dislodgement, as shown in our previous analysis using a shock lead.
    Conclusion: VSP has a mechanical vulnerability of being dislodged not only during the acute phase of the implantation, but also over in the long term.

    Tsuruarame (Ecklonia stolonifera
    Okamura
    ) belongs to Laminariaceae which is representative of brown algae. Tsuruarame is removed from sea area of Oma, Aomori Prefecture because of a bad influence on the production of Makonbu (Laminaria japonica Areschoug). In order to obtain the fundamental information for effective use of the removed Tsumarame, the polysaccharide composition of Tsumarame and their enzymatic hydrolysis were investigated. Sugar composition analysis suggested that laminaran, fucoidan, and cellulose were the types of polysaccharides present in the cell-walls of Tsuruarame, and that the carbohydrates in Tsuruarame and Makonbu had features in common. Commercial enzymes for the effective saccharification of Tsumarame polysaccharides were screened for. Meicellase P was selected. The amount of glucose released from the 4% KOH-pretreated, triturated Tsumarame by treatment with Meicellase P accounted for about 40-50 % of glucan in Tsumarame

    By the 1960s, the Hawaiian language was on the verge of extinction, but the language has been revitalized through considerable efforts, beginning in the 1970s, to rebuild Hawaiian culture and identity. Political arguments concerning Hawaiian versus “Local” identity caused me to wonder about Hawaiian language learners’ linguistic, ethnic, and cultural identities. In Hawai‘i’s multicultural, multiethnic, multilingual society, the term “Local” has been used to distinguish Hawai‘i-born and raised people from other residents of Hawai‘i. Locals are often marked as speakers of Pidgin or Hawai‘i Creole. However, “Local” can also refer to opponents of Native Hawaiian identity in the community. Some scholars argue that this term’s use covers ethnic tensions in Hawaiian society (e.g.
    Okamura
    , 2008). In this paper, I analyze how Hawaiian language learners with mixed ethnic backgrounds relate to these ethnic identifications discursively through their talk. I conducted semi-structured interviews with three college students who were taking Hawaiian language classes. I apply framing and footing as tools (Goffman, 1974, 1981) to examine how their discursive identities are constructed with the various ethnic and place-based markers. One participant identified himself as both Hawaiian and Local, supporting
    Okamura
    ’s argument that Hawaiians can have both native Hawaiian and Local identities without conflict (
    Okamura
    , 1994). Another participant was born in Hawai‘i, but grew up elsewhere. She did not explicitly identify herself as Local, but did not deny that identity either. The third participant framed himself as a Native American and clearly distinguished that identity from being Hawaiian. Through the participants’ talk, I discovered that racially identified Hawaiians and Locals, who were born and raised in Hawai‘i, can afford special status as Hawaiians or Locals to non-Hawaiians and non-Locals. However, as one participant puts it, it is “fake” to speak with Locals in Pidgin. Thus, accepting the giving of Local status might be resisted by non-Locals.

    The life history of Desmarestia tabacoides
    Okamura
    has been studied in culture. Unilocular sporangia lie embedded in the superficial layer of the cortex. The zoospores develop into minute filamentous thalli (gametophytes) which are monoecious. The formation of both oogonia and antheridia is induced under the culture conditions of comparatively lower temperature and shorter photoperiod. The fertilized eggs germinate inside the oogonia to form monosiphonous filaments which develop into pseudoparenchymatous Desmarestia plants (sporophytes). The sporophytes grow well at 10-18° in a 10-14-hr photoperiod and bear unilocular sporangia at 14-22° in a 10-14-hr photoperiod.

    1. At the first nuclear division in the zoosporangium of Undaria undariaides (Yendo)
    Okamura
    , synapsis stage and diakinesis are observed. Therefore, the first and second nuclear divisions in the zoosporangium are meiosis.
    2. After meiosis, three successive mitoses take place to form 32 free nuclei. Consequently 32 haploid zoospores are contained in a zoosporangium.
    3. The haploid chromosome number in the present species is about 30.
    4. Both the centrosome and the aster are not observed. The spindle is delicate.
    5. The nucleolus disappears at late diakinesis.
