    Serial precordial mapping was done in 30 patients with acute anterior myocardial infarction, 27 transmural and 3 subendocardial. The sum of ST elevations in the 48 lead map was designated as Σ ST.
    Normal Σ ST was calculated as 27.1±3.1 in males and 14.3±2.8 in females. In infarction it was 100.4±58.2 in males and 84.8±50.9 in females on the 1st day of admission.
    Σ ST was elevated on day 1 and tended to fall gradually. In 6 patients it was normal by day 7 and in 7 it was still abnormal by day 21. This fall roughly co-related with fall in SGOT and CPK levels.
    Significant elevation of Σ ST occurred in 14 of 27 cases after day 1. In 10 of 27 cases significant re-elevation occurred on day 4 or after i.e. when the patient was outside the ICCU. In 10 of the 14 re-elevations there was pain or worsening of clinical picture and in 12 there was reelevation of SGOT. This elevation presumably implied infarct extension.
    There was a tendency to more arrhythmias in the patients with higher Σ ST and of the 4 deaths in the series 3 had very high Σ ST and high levels of SGOT. The patient with the highest Σ ST 295 died in cardiogenic shock.
    The number of risk factors was found to be higher in the high Σ ST group.

    A variety of polycrystalline alumina and sapphire surfaces were successfully covered with
    ruby
    crystal layers by the isothermal evaporation of MoO3 flux. The grown
    ruby
    layers exhibited transparent-red, and the
    ruby
    -coated alumina materials showed beauty and luster in the as-grown state without skilled cutting and polishing. For sapphire substrates, the
    ruby
    layers were epitaxially grown on their surface. Furthermore, the growth model of
    ruby
    layers was discussed, and aluminum molybdate (Al2(MoO4)3) was found to be the intermediate compound for the growth of
    ruby
    crystals.

    The behavior of elements composing
    ruby
    and brazing filler metals at the brazing interface was examined by EPMA, and the construction of reaction layer formed at the brazing interface was examined by X-ray diffraction method, in order to investigate the corrosion phenomina of
    ruby
    by active metal brazing filler (Ag-Cu-Ti). The corrosion depth of
    ruby
    brazed under various conditions were evaluated by measuring surface roughness, in order to examine the relation between the corrosion depth of
    ruby
    and brazing condition.
    The examination of brazing interface by EPMA showed that the reaction layer was constituted by two distinct layers with different titanium content. According to the X-ray diffraction method, the reaction layer formed adjacent to
    ruby
    was mainly constituted with TiO. Aluminum made from corroded
    ruby
    diffused outside of TiO-layer and formed the secondary reaction layer constituted by Ti3AI, Cu2Ti4O, AICu and CuxTiy. These experimental results showed that
    ruby
    was reduced by titanium contained brazing filler metal. According to the corrosion test using Ag-Cu-4 mass%Ti, the isothermal corrosion depth of
    ruby
    increased proportional to square root of brazing time in the temperature range of 1123 K to 1223 K. The temperature dependence of the rate constants fits an Arrhenius equation yielding activation energies of 224.2 kJ/mol.

    has been brazed to molybdenum rod using Ag-Cu eutectic filler including active metal of 1-8 mass%Ti, in order to investigate on the relation between the brazing condition and the bonding strength.
    The strength of the joint was evaluated by tensile test and the brazing interface was examined by SEM and EPMA.
    According to the tensile test, bonding strength of the joint brazed with 1 mass%Ti-Ag.Cu was less than 20 MPa independent on bonding temperature. Anotherside, bonding strength of the joint brazed at 1123 K-1173 K using 2-8 mass% Ti-Ag.Cu, was more than 100 MPa, and above 1223 K, it was reducing with raising of brazing temperature. Especialy the bonding strength of joint brazed at 1223 K using 8 mass%Ti-Ag.Cu showed remarkable reduction.
    The examination of brazing interface by SEM and EPMA showed that
    ruby
    was corroded by brazing filler and reaction layer composed by Ti, Cu, Al and 0 was formed at bonding interface. According to the corrosion test, raising the brazing temperature and increasing the Ti content in the brazing filler hasten the corrosion of
    ruby
    .
    Wiht advancing of
    ruby
    corrosin, Al and O made from corroded
    ruby
    diffused into the reaction layer and the content of these elements increased in this area. These experimental results showed that bonding strength of joint was reducing with advancing of
    ruby
    corrosion at brazing interface.
    This suggests that advancing of
    ruby
    corrosion at bonding interface brings the brittleness of reaction layer and the bonding strength is reducing.
    Anotherside, the preferential movement of Ti to bonding interface was hasten with advancing of
    ruby
    corrosion and it was assumed that the movement of Ti to bonding interface was concern to
    ruby
    corrosion.

    plates, each having (112^-0) and (0001) crystal planes, are loaded in order to investigate the anisotropic sensitivity. The sensitivities for pure uniaxial stress are obtained from the experimental data and FEM stress analysis of the

    . Obtained sensitivities for (112^-0) and for (0001) crystal planes are 0.141 7±0.002 0 nm/GPa and 0.077 9±0.003 2 nm/GPa respectively in the R1 fluorescence line. These values are indispensable in studying the stress field of a pressure chamber and the utility of the

    sensor will be enlarged.

    The American educational goals for this 21st century stems from the proclamation by President Obama (October 1, 2009). Specifically, President Obama states that "rather than merely processing data, we must also learn the skills necessary to acquire, collate, and evaluate information for any given situation." As a call to action, respective educational leaders of America are implementing ways to address the inclusion of information literacy within existing educational curricula. While addressing recent key environmental concerns, this paper will also touch upon some ideas to standardize English literacy requirements at the Japanese university levels. By doing so, this may elevate and heighten critical thinking levels among Japanese students to realize the immediacy in preserving our Earth's biodiversity and in supporting ecological standards in the "greening" of our environments. As educators, this standardization would contribute in developing more eco-answers to the pressing questions that demand our attention for more global awareness.

    The less favorable results produced by the Q-switched
    ruby
    laser (Q-
    Ruby
    ) than by the Q-switched Nd: YAG laser (Q-YAG) against Ota's nevus which were indicated by the authors' recent report7) are as follows; 1) the energy of
    ruby
    laser beam is remarkably absorbed at the layer of epidermal basal melanosis and already massively consumed there before getting to dermis, 2) therefore it is quantitatively not powerful enough to destroy Ota's nevus lesion at dermis, that is, dermal melanocytes, 3) consequently Q-
    Ruby
    is actually less effective than Q-YAG to Ota's nevus, especially, the deep-seated one. In order to overcome this penetration disadvantage of Q-
    Ruby
    against Ota's nevus, the authors originated the combined treatment of Erbium: YAG (Er: YAG) and Q-
    Ruby
    (Er: YAG+Q-
    Ruby
    ). They evaluate the efficacy of the Er: YAG+Q-
    Ruby
    against Ota's nevus in comparison with that of Q-
    Ruby
    alone.
    A total of 47 Ota's nevus lesions of 20 patients were treated. Er: YAG laser (Aesculap: MCL-29) having a wavelength of 2.94μm and a pulsewidth of 350μsec, and Q-
    Ruby
    laser (NIIC: 113-101, and Spectrum: RD-1200) having a wavelength of 694 nm and a pulsewidth of 20~25 nsec were used in the trials. Laser irradiation was conducted under local anesthesia. In Er: YAG+Q-
    Ruby
    , Q-
    Ruby
    (fluences: 7.0-8.0J/cm2) was applied just after irradiation of Er: YAG (fluence: 4.0 J/cm2). In Q-
    Ruby
    alone, the fluences used were also between 7.0 and 8.0 J/cm2Each treatment of Er: YAG+Q-
    Ruby
    and Q-
    Ruby
    alone was separately performed only one time at the same lesion of the same patient. The clinical effectiveness of the two methods at each treated site was judged over a period of three months after irradiation. Skin biopsies were also performed for both photo- and electron- microscopic observation of post- irradiation change.
    The total effective rates of Er: YAG+Q-
    Ruby
    and Q-
    Ruby
    alone on Ota's nevus were 66% and 43% respectively without any side-effects. In effective rates according to lesional sites, there was prominent difference between the two methods except cheek (Er: YAG+Q-

    : 50-75 Q-

    alone: 25~44%). In those according to histology3), there was also remarkable difference between them in the deep-seated group, that is, diffuse (Di), deep dominant (DD) and deep (De) types (Er: YAG+Q-

    : 50-72%, Q-

    alone: 0~39%), while there was no difference between them in the superficial-seated group, that is, superficial (S) and superficial dominant (SD) types (75-86% in each method). Furthermore, there was especially prominent difference between them in types DD and De lesions of eyelid (Er: YAG+Q-
    Ruby
    : 67%, Q-
    Ruby
    alone: 11%) and in type Di lesions except eyelid (Er: YAG+Q-
    Ruby
    : 71%, Q-
    Ruby
    alone: 29%).
    The aforementioned more favorable results produced by Er: YAG+Q-
    Ruby
    than by Q-
    Ruby
    alone are thought attributable to prolongation of light extinction length of the
    ruby
    laser beam in dermis by Er: YAG's photoablative removal of epidermal basal melanosis which could prevent the beam from penetrating the skin deeper.

    Roman’ exhibited a fruity character in common with ‘Pione’. Component profiling of aroma and taste compounds revealed that ‘

    Roman’ and ‘Pione’ contained 15 esters, which were absent from the other grape cultivars, indicating that these esters were the causes of the fruity character of ‘
    Ruby
    Roman’ and ‘Pione’. Analysis by gas chromatography-olfactometry and a comparison between quantitative values and odour thresholds were performed, and these results led to the observation that ethyl 2-methylbutanoate and ethyl butanoate were the characteristic esters in ‘
    Ruby
    Roman’ associated with the fruity aroma characteristic of this grape cultivar.

    Few softwares performing neuron tracing and 3D reconstruction from serial sections are available, but they are rather expensive. We have used the 3D reconstruction system developed originally in 80's. It is still working, but quite slow in performance. We developed a new Windows-based tracing software "NeuroShape" based on the same concept, and compared usability. The conventional bright-field microscope, video camera and digital linear scale are reused. A personal computer is linked to the camera and the scale via USB interfaces. The software is newly coded with
    Ruby
    , the interpreted scripting language. Microscopic view is shown overlaid on a video image captured. Users then trace the neuron structures specifying XY coordinates by mouse operation and Z coordinate by microscope focusing. Shrinkage correction is also available. To obtain 3D view, the virtual reality modeling language (VRML) is used. We reconstructed 3D models of neurons using the old and new system.Reconstructed images were almost the same and the new system "NeuroShape" saved lot of time for error correction. Final 3D views were shown interactively with nearly real-time response. We could build the system with few expense and stress the usefulness for exploring the 3D structure of neurons.     結晶中に見られる砂糖きび絞り機の歯車(trapicho)に似た模様はトラピッチェ・パターンと呼ばれ、エメラルド、コランダム(ルビー、サファイア)、ガーネット、トルマリン、スピネルで報告されている。また、同様の組織は水晶、紅柱石(空晶石)にも見られる。

    トラピッチェ・パターンは概ね 2 つのタイプ、 (a)セクター境界に沿って、異種鉱物が樹枝状に配列しているもの、 (b)柱面から垂線方向に結晶自身が成長、または異種鉱物・欠陥が集中して柱状模様を示すもの、に大別できる。このうち、前者の組織については、高過飽和条件下での樹枝状成長とそれに続く低過飽和条件下での多面体成長の二段階を経ていると説明されているが、後者については十分な検討がされていない。

    現在、我々は様々な鉱物に見られるトラピッチェ・パターンの形成過程を検討中であり、これまでに得られた結果について報告する。

    以下の図はトラピッチェ・エメラルドのc-カットの組成像である。中央のコア領域の周囲には多数のインクルージョンが取り込まれており、それらがセクター境界の方向に配列している(図1)。また、柱面のセクター中にはインクルージョンに起源を発し、成長方向に伸長した細かい模様が存在している(図2、3)。

    セクター境界は結晶外形で見られる稜の軌跡であるから、トラピッチェ・パターンは稜に析出した異種鉱物の継続的な取り込みとそれらに起因した界面の instability による一方向成長で説明できる。
