This article highlights the recent progress of cross-linked polymers, especially the ones cross-linked via dynamic covalent bonds. Among various species, vitrimers are a new class of cross-linked materials that have been recently developed to solve the problem of conventional cross-linked materials, such as poor recyclability and healability. These functions are owing to the capability of network topology alternation through the associative dynamic bond-exchange mechanism. In the first section, outstanding features of vitrimers, in terms of chemical and physical aspects, based on the comparison with thermoplastics and classical dynamic covalent bonded polymers. Later, some fundamental physical properties of vitrimers, such as creep and stress relaxation, are summarized. Useful sustainable functions are then introduced, in which special adhesion functions are also demonstrated. In the last section, one-shot transformation of ordinary polymers into vitrimers is explained, which is highly important for practical application of vitrimer concept. Overall, this article can provide some recent knowledge for creation of functional cross-linked polymers, which could contribute the realization of international slogan of Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)
