Farnsworth House precisely represents Mies van der Rohe's aethetic concept "Less is more". Although the plan of the house is very simple, it is difficult to explain its principle of geometric composition. The purpose of this paper is to reveal the geometric principle of the floor plan, and the designing rule of the floor plan. The conclusion of this study is as follows. 1)Grid system and propotional sectioning are employed in shaping and demensioning of a floor plan. 2)A double-square is used as a basic figure of the floor plan which includs the house, terrace and those surroundings. The figure is devided into some principal parts of the house by integer ratio, such as 5 : 4. 3)The shape of some principal parts, such as the part of the house surrounded by glass walls, the terrace surrounded by six steel columns and a service core are the same double-square as the basic figure. 4)The service core is also laid out by propotinal sectioning and by a grid system.
