Our problematic is why the balcony appeared in the Renaissance. The preliminary analysis on the language and the history of architecture makes a hypothesis that the balcony is an instrument invented on the intersection between the terrace and the building protuberance. This research limits the field in Paris and makes clear, by the analysis of the Louvre projects of the Valois, that this complex, hidden behind the castle wall in the Middle Ages, begins to advance toward the Seine in the Renaissance and that the first balcony in Paris appears, although yet on the project, on the Petite Galerie.
