This study aims to clarify the historical transition of the Public Retail Market in pre-war Osaka city on following 3 aspects.
1. The urban policies and social position of the Public Retail Market were analyzed through papers of Hajime SEKI and Osaka's Council minutes.
2. The historical transition of the Public Retail Market were classified by the analysis of gross floor area, structure, plan, elevation and section drawings of 21 buildings.
3. How the Public Retail Market had played the role as the core of the living environment was shown by the survey of two case.
