This study investigates the relationship between the moisture adsorption characteristics of building materials and fungal growth under controlled humidity conditions. The findings reveal that fungal proliferation is more closely related to the internal moisture behavior of materials than to ambient relative humidity. These results indicate that current mold prediction models—which primarily focus on environmental parameters—may be insufficient for accurately assessing mold risks. Incorporating material-specific moisture responses could enhance the precision of mold growth assessments in buildings. This research provides a foundation for refining predictive models used in architectural design and environmental management.
