In Edo period, there were four "DAIKU-GASIRA", great chief carpenter, in the organization of the Shogunate. DAIKU-GASIRA was not only a chief carpenter but also an architect. NAKAI family was one of DAIKU-GASIRA families. Three other DAIKU-GASIRA were in Edo, but NAKAI family lived in Kyoto. And NAKAI family had governed all carpenters in Kinki district from 1600 A. D. to 1870. NAKAI family had built many palaces for Emperor and his family, castles and houses for Syogun and feudal lords, buddist temples and Sinto shrines in such period. NAKAI family had kept many documents and drawings made by themselves. Now these documents are divided and kept by several libraries. We collected these documents by films, and these become about 4, 500 items 25, 000 documents and drawings already. These documents and drawings are divided into 3 parts. One is official documents as DAIKU-GASIRA, the second one is documents and drawings about building palaces and so on, and the last one is others. This paper is the study on the classification of drawings in the second one. Three steps are made in this classification, and then some smaller sections in each step.
