The chiroptical properties of (+)-(1S, 2S)-dibenzoxycycloheptane and (+)-(1S, 2S)-dibenzoxycyclooctane were observed. The dibenzoate chirality rule for chiral dibenzoxycyclohexanes was successfully applicable to these medium-sized ring compounds as well. The conformation of the open chain dibenzoates was discussed on the basis of the chiroptical properties found for the dibenzoate and di-p-nitrobenzoate of (+)-(2S, 3S)-butane-diol.
