Abstract
This paper analyzes the first half of Chapter 5 of Yutaka Haniya's novel " Shire ". The purpose of the analysis is to clarify that Yutaka Haniya wrote this novel with the greatest emphasis on the act of thinking. The subject of the analysis is mainly three scenes. 1) A scene in which a top member of a revolutionary organization interrogates a person who betrayed the organization through espionage. 2) A scene of philosophical dialogue between the interrogator and the interrogated. 3) The scene where the interrogated person is executed. Through the analysis, it became clear that Yutaka Haniya believed that the only way for each human being to think thoroughly for themselves is to overcome their discomfort with the law of autonomy. It became clear that he insisted that the most important human behavior is to think thoroughly for himself, not to stop thinking, change the problem, or make a sophistry.
