This study investigated the changes of the perception of effective English teaching among pre-service teachers in the Faculty of Education at University A. Participants were instructed to watch videos of real English classes and provide comments. The qualitative text data was analyzed quantitatively using KH Coder. The findings indicate that as pre-service teachers progressed through the teacher training program, their focus gradually shifted from evaluating teaching quality based on students’ perspectives to emphasizing the significance of detailed lesson planning. Moreover, they started emphasizing the importance of instructional competence in implementing those planned lessons. It is important to note that students’ perception of effective English teaching is significantly influenced by their learning experiences in each grade.
